I enjoyed living on the farm surrounded by nature and wildlife. Very often I would be found with a stray kitten in my bibs while reading a book near the chicken coop, snacking on strawberries picked from the garden. I was comforted by the lull of the cows as we laid in bed at night wondering why our mother had not called or visited. Holidays were the best times, grandma always went into extravagances in decorations, food, and gifts for us; something that now I look back I guess she felt would distract us from our mother’s absence.
My first education experience was recalled by my grandmother: the first day of school stating that I came home extremely upset and crying. When she was able to discover what it was, everyone found it comical. I was upset because on the first day of kindergarten all we had done was color and write our names. Upon my eighteenth birthday my mother’s boyfriend evicted me and I was on my own. I instantly enrolled in the local community college, taking electronic courses to finish my certification. I entered the work force at a local power supply factory, worked for Micro Energy for the next five years, rising from a test technician to a senior line technician. The factory would be bought out, sold and relocated to China in 2002. I took a local position as an assistant night manager at a local hotel, while I waited for a position to open at the other electrical factory, Harris Broadcast. I would eventually get the job and hold it under contract until the product line was finished, returning me to the unemployment
