My Personal Collage: The Rise Of The Tyrannosaurs

Improved Essays
My personal collage is an embodiment of who I am and what I believe in. It acts as a small account of my identity and, in a way, immortalizes what makes me “me.” Each object that I placed in my collage and the way I placed it means and stands for something that contributes to who I am as a person. The collage acts as an insight to my unique experiences and outlooks. In this project I show the teams who I support , a deep connection due to past personal experiences. The “Rise of the Tyrannosaurs” relates to me and once again brings back the memories I hold so deeply. I always loved the old T. Rex and dinosaurs in general, so much so that my Gaga (grandmother in Native American) gifted to me a collection of books that acted as an encyclopedia

No matter how many times you've seen the Mosasaurus jump out of the water and devour that great white shark in the trailer, it still takes you aback in the movie. The dinosaurs look amazing and though it's probably not as much of a technical breakthrough compared to the original Jurassic Park in '93, they still look pretty darn good. When Bryce Dallas Howard and Chris Pratt sit down to touch one of the wounded dinosaurs, you can actually see and hear their hands patting the animal. You can clearly see the light reflecting off the Triceratops' horns, the layers of eyelids when the Indominus Rex blinks and the blood dripping from its maw because it's just eaten a few people. It can be argued that the dinosaurs do not look scientifically accurate, but for what they were intended to look like, they look pretty darn real to me.…

In regards to Chyna Little’s Grendel art project, titled “Beauty and the Beast”, my initial impression was that the booklet was well put together and very creative. I found the project to show the main purpose of the book quite well and found it to be very interesting. My initial impression of the conversation with Chyna was also well-understood and worth while. As Chyna and I conversed, she showed a great deal of interest in showing me each and every detail of the book and gave me a good reasoning for why she chose each section. Chyna was also patient with all my questions and had logical answers for each one, along with giving me her own honest opinion on her booklet with the effort placed into it and the weaknesses she felt should be explained.…

Going back to the title the dinosaur can be a symbol of extinction or bringing the past into the present. However, the author wants the audience to see how the dinosaur means clutching onto big childhood aspirations. Furthermore, hugging it tight and protecting it so it does not become extinct and just something one reads about in the past. The audience can see that black boy holding the gun as if he has no time for dreams and therefore cannot worry about those kinds of thing. In the line where the author writes, “no one kills the black boy.…

Authenticity is the cause of diversity. It is the self-authorship that guides each soul in a different direction, developing individual identities. Charles Taylor, a philosopher of social sciences, claims, “The moral ideal of authenticity is that each of us find our own way of being in the world.” We find that way through undergoing life’s disappointments and achievements directly, not from handed down stories. In “The Dinosaurs”, Italo Calvino explores the concept of what it means to actively pursue an authentic persona in light of constant stories that challenge his character’s personal beliefs and opinions.…

I Ain’t Afraid of No Curse Throughout the Colloquium Monstrorum, I noticed connections between a few of the different monsters. Specifically, connections between the Baba Yaga, the Wendigo, the Werewolf, and Medusa. The monsters exhibit individual connections of female power, european origin, witchcraft, the devil, and cannibalism, but overall, they all share the common qualities of being cursed, their unattractiveness, and being human. While many monsters lectured about during the Colloquium Monstrorum display individual connections, these four expand beyond that and have overlapping and general connections, as well as individual ones.…

An unusually fragile underclassman: devoid of faith and fearful of a new environment brimming with the cold embrace of the unknown. “What do you like about yourself?” Sitting in the audience, listening to an assembly during my freshman orientation of high school, this existential question hit me like a tidal wave—initially destructive yet ultimately metamorphic. Those around me blessed with a wealth of confidence from a young age beamed with vanity: athletes, scholars, musicians and those exceptionally precocious few with the ability to thrive in multiple environments.…

When I started researching this topic, I believed that I would only be able to find a few old topics on animal abuse, but as I researched and researched, the stories continuously got grimmer. One particular story that wasn’t as grim but still got to me was one of a former Boulder City Animal Control supervisor named Mary Jo Frazier. So I tried my best to get as many images that weren’t to gruesome and use it on our groups collage in order to reflect Mary Jo Frazier’s case. So what was Mary Jo Frazier, the supervisor of an animal shelter accused of exactly?…

    Indiana State Museum Essay

The first thing that caught my attention about the Indiana State Museum was that the museum is basically divided into two parts. It is divided into the natural history side and the cultural history side. I found this very interesting, as I had just assumed that everything in the museum was imported, categorized, and stored in similar manors. When you think about it, it makes sense to divide the museum into two parts as it allows the staff members of the two teams to be specialized experts in their fields, rather than to just know a lot about all of this history in the museum. It also makes sense in that obviously historical documents and dinosaur bones will have to be processed and stored in very different ways.…

I truly believe that the exhibits included in my portfolio have been chosen because they relate to my life in many senses. I often feel like I am similar to Sherlock Holmes in The Hound of the Baskervilles because as a kid, I was always one of the smartest at my school, but when I came to college, I found out the true difference between the ways in which cleverness can affect others as expressed by both Aylmer, in “The Birthmark”, and Sherlock Holmes. Sherlock Holmes’ intelligence impacted a family in a tremendously great way due to the way in which he used his cleverness in The Hound of the Baskervilles whereas the way in which Alymer used his intelligence was poor and thus ended in a very saddening outcome. “The difference between stupidity…

No place better exemplifies bricolages than a shared, college bedroom. Bricolages are “compositions designed by combining pre-existing designs” which “express their creator’s identity and worldview, consciously or unconsciously” (Huhtamo, Meeting 1, 20). Bricolages are analyzed through semiotics, the analysis of culture through interpretations of signs (Huhtamo, “Basic Concepts” 257). College is where many first experience living with people who are not family. In a shared bedroom, styles and tastes that reflect the various backgrounds and experiences of the occupants come together.…

Thomas Hobbes is a well renowned philosopher, specifically in the world of political philosophy. His work the Leviathan opened up revolutionary ideas that were beyond his time. Hobbes wrote the “Leviathan” during the English Civil War, a war caused by religion and violently ending with the beheading of the king. Hobbes watched this madness unfold, leading him to extend a “helping hand” over to England authority, by publicizing a solution for all to read. His work introduced a radical topic by the name of “Social Contract,” which proposed that a person’s morals and/or political obligations are dependent on an agreement to form or coexist in a society.…

I have always had a passion for history and storytelling since I was a child and decided in seventh grade world history class that I wanted to be an archaeologist, discovering ancient cultures and uncovering their secrets. I maintained this plan, arriving at Boston University as an archaeology major but after several semesters of study realized that it wasn’t the exact path for me. I began to grow my appreciation of museums, admiring how they could ignite wonder, curiosity, and learning in myself and others. I realized this was where I felt most at home. Therefore, I decided to change my major to art history, while retaining an archaeology minor, and explore history through the lens of artist’s interpretations and ideas.…
