My personal development is an intriguing story of learning the consequences of failure, the benefits of success, and everything that happened in between. This analysis of my development will review events in my life that have impacted my personal and professional decision to become a social worker. I will also be reviewing personal characteristics that apply to my professional experiences and the vocational and educational experiences that I would like involve myself with in the next five years.

That entire two years was a highly stressful experience. Almost every assignment, quiz, or trip was stressful. However, the internships were the most stressful. Out of the three that I did, I believe the second one was the most stressful. I spent five months at HRDC in Cumberland in the Aging Services Department. I was immediately given the opportunity to run a program- Mobility Management Program. This program was to facilitate transportation to/from human service appointments for those who received Medicaid and Medicare. I was to coordinate with clients, the multiple different transportation services that we utilized, the human service agencies that the clients were to be at, and make sure everyone received payment for the services provided. I was expected to do this almost as soon as day one at my internship. I was told “Answer this phone and take a message.” Then I was told, “All you have to do is schedule it, think you can do that?” A few days later I was given a five-minute overview of the program, was told that the person whose job this was is on medical leave, and they had no one else available to fulfil the program’s needs except for when I was there two days a week. So, during the second week of my internship, I completely reorganized the program, decided that I needed to make this my sole responsibility, and I put my all into learning Mobility Management. I was an intern, but I barely had any supervision. When I had a question, I had to hunt someone down in the office and it typically was not my contracted supervisor. Therefore, I had to develop skills and make decisions that I never thought I was able to do. I was praised for my composure, my leadership, and my ability to be independent in the workforce and during an internship.
