Personal Reflection On The Benefits Of Valuing Diversity

Introduction This personal action plan will include things such as my personal growth, (how this class as affected my diversity awareness), diversity benefits (things that will benefit me from valuing diversity), diversity communication (how communication will promote diversity awareness), and diversity goals (what my most important diversity goals are for the future.

Personal Growth The reason I took this course is because it seemed interesting and I wanted to know more about how others view diversity awareness. This class has affected my diversity awareness opening my eyes to look beyond just the surface. For instance I should not just see somebody and judge them based on what someone else of their particular skin color did and get to know the person on the inside. The other thing that I learned from this class is that people have different levels of diversity awareness and we all have certain areas that we need to work on. My diversity skills have been affected by taking this class

This is much more than accepting that we all have differences, or even respecting those differences (Honey)”. The first benefit I will gain from valuing diversity is making better decisions. If I only surrounded myself with people who think just like me I would never see a different world -view or be able to expand my horizons and my critical thinking skills would be subpar at best. The second benefit I will gain is having the ability to” build positive relationships with “different people”( Barkman)”. I can make an effort to meet people who are of a different race, religion, and mindset. By doing so I will be able to have different world- views and even force myself out of my comfort zone. The third thing I can gain from valuing diversity is having the “ appreciation and respect of the similarities and differences among people (
