My perception of the field of social work is helping people in need and providing the resource for people that need it. My first thoughts of social workers were they were caseworkers for families, but I realized they are so much more than that. Social workers are helpers, supporters, counselors and sometimes a friend for their clients. In addition, I love helping people in any way possible and that is why I wanted to become a social worker because there are so many paths I can take to help someone in need.
I have only taken one social work course, which is Seminar in Helping this class help me fully discover what a social worker really is and opened my eyes to so many things a general practitioner social worker can go through and the different methods/ processes they can use effectively to help their client. I learn that I have to learn the usage of "Self" and able it to my practice. Being able to identify my triggers gives me the ability to use that to stir my client in a better direction. This class gave me a better understanding of what competency really was. This class opened my eye to multiple processes and methods I can use to develop my own practice and got me thinking about what area in social work I will like to work in.
My life experiences have contributed a lot to me deciding to be a social worker as my first career because growing up I had a lot of family issues and thoughts that were not pleasant. I lost a lot of people in my life and knew a few that been beaten…
