My Passion For Teaching: My Love For Education

As children we are often asked what we want to be when we grow up; the answers range from firefighter, doctor, president, astronaut, veterinarian and many more. When asked this question my response was that I wanted to be a teacher or more specifically a math teacher. At the time I was never really sure why, but as I have grown up and looked back on my experiences in school it has become clear I wanted to be a teacher; this being because I loved to learn and I love to help people. I think that my love for learning is one of the main reasons I wanted become a teacher because no matter what is going on something is always learned. The teacher blocked off an area and we fit as many people as we could and said that for every ______ sq. ft. ______ people would be able to fit. Each day we would have a pair of student’s measure one room in the building, with the information they gave us we would graph the room and determine the area. The reason I loved this assignment so much was because the teacher allowed us to be hands on with the material he was teaching us. There wasn’t just a lecture and homework, we were given real life situations to fit with our learning. Most students will say they don’t understand why they are learning specific subject matter because it won’t relate to anything they do it life. I believe that changing up the way we teach will keep the students engaged. For example I had a teacher for a statistics class who would lecture the class, giving us notes and then homework for what we learned every day. This method got very boring and was hard to keep up with. However when I took statistics two with a different teacher, the teacher would give us notes to start off a chapter or unit, then would have some type of activity. The activities usually varied from a paper, a poster, a power-point, a game related to the material, a mini lesson,
