My Passion For Reading Essay

Clarence Shepard Day once stated, “the world of books is the most remarkable creation of man. Nothing else that he builds ever lasts. Monuments fall; nations perish; civilizations grow old and die out; and, after an era of darkness, new races build others. But in the world of books are volumes that have seen this happen again and again, and yet live on, still young, still as fresh as the day they were written, still telling men’s hearts of the hearts of men centuries dead” (BookHub). Tapping into my love of reading came in a point in my life when I really needed a comfort zone and a place for my mind to “escape”. As cliché as this may sound, the book that set forth my passion for reading was Twilight written by Stephanie Meyer. As I turned …show more content…
A spectacular thing about the library is that you can check out as many books as you want. The library is like a fortress of unlimited possibilities, worlds, cultures and adventures. It was a place that keep me occupied in not only reading, but studying and made sure I got my homework done. I can remember how my own private collection grew so much that my mom bought me a bookshelf. But my private collection of books grew and even a bookshelf was not enough to house all of them. Every year when my birthday came around my mom took me to Barnes and Nobles, where I was able to pick out three books that I was in dire need of. Every year I felt the need to organize my own growing collection of books by genre, favorites, author and alphabetical order. The books that I out grew I put in boxes, believing that I would pass them on to my children or other future readers. With the digital age progressing as fast as it is, it makes common every day jobs and items obsolete. The rapid incline in technological advancements has society wanting products quicker in their hands, which is called instant gratification. On Kennesaw State University Campus, the school used to have a toll booth where students/visitors had to pay attendants money to park their car in the parking lot. Now, the school has gotten rid of the attendants and put parking pay stations in their place. But, just because something …show more content…
Civilizations documents and keep records of historical events so we will not have to repeat the same mistakes over again. Reading is a form of learning that not only teaches humans about past historical events, but languages, cultures and all the things the world has to offer. I can remember when the nook color was put on the market by Barnes and Nobles. When I was in eighth grade I wanted one so much that eventually my grandma bought it for me as a Christmas gift. For the first couple of months the nook color was all that I read my books on. Then, I started missing the feel of an actual paperback book in my hands. I really missed a paperback book when the teacher said that I could not read on the nook during school hours because it was considered an electronic. A year later I was reading my nook when it all of a sudden cut off on me and would not turn on again. The moral behind the story is that technology’s lifespan is brief. It is created to last 5 years or less, while the United States and other Countries have hard back copies of books that was written hundreds of years ago. Yes, it may be faster to pay for an ebook online than getting out of bed and going to the store to purchase it, but at the end of the day it is just an electronic image of a copy. Reading on an electronic device is not the same as having a hard copy of a book in your hands. On a tablet you will not be able to see the wear

This was back before most people have Internet, cell phones, and cable TV, so books were the Foote Family’s entertainment. Foote remembers believing that her family had only a small collection of books that she had been constantly outgrowing, but as an adult she realized that she was wrong. Her family’s book collection was incredibly large and she believes that the books were “designed for people like [them]” (34).…

History is greatly defined by the applications of inventions to help groups of people. Arguably the most influential invention of the 1400s, let alone 1450, was the printing press created by Johannes Gutenberg that allowed a simpler, more cost effective way of printing (Spielvogel 350). The events and inventions of 1450 served as a catalyst for a gradual turning point in European history that greatly influenced Europe and the world for years to come. The invention of printing led to easy access to the Bible, which in turn sparked a revolution of people making their own religious decisions.…

Ray Bradbury wrote about a society that revolved around the idea of people not thinking for themselves and dismissing the use of books. Books are more than just a means of passing time, books allow people to enhance and facilitate their own feeling and opinions on their views in life. Fiction and as well as nonfiction books give people the opportunity to choose a side that they believe in and can connect with. There are many paths to choose from which lead to different outcomes good or bad, but people are born with the right to choose which path they want to pursue. If someone only knows of one path to go, they have no other choice but to pick that one path that has been presented to them.…

Reading Memoir John Green, author of The Fault in Our Stars, stated,” Great books help you understand, and they help you feel understood.” Actually, reading books helps me to explore the world. When I was just a little girl, I loved reading fairy tales which brought me to many vicarious thrilling adventures, and when growing up, non-fiction books taught me how to become a good person. Besides that, reading has brought me to many various levels of emotions, such as joy, love, hate, fear, and sorrow. Some stories not only make me feel euphoric with happy endings, but they also make me feel despondent when a character’s deep sorrow touched my heart.…
