A spectacular thing about the library is that you can check out as many books as you want. The library is like a fortress of unlimited possibilities, worlds, cultures and adventures. It was a place that keep me occupied in not only reading, but studying and made sure I got my homework done. I can remember how my own private collection grew so much that my mom bought me a bookshelf. But my private collection of books grew and even a bookshelf was not enough to house all of them. Every year when my birthday came around my mom took me to Barnes and Nobles, where I was able to pick out three books that I was in dire need of. Every year I felt the need to organize my own growing collection of books by genre, favorites, author and alphabetical order. The books that I out grew I put in boxes, believing that I would pass them on to my children or other future readers. With the digital age progressing as fast as it is, it makes common every day jobs and items obsolete. The rapid incline in technological advancements has society wanting products quicker in their hands, which is called instant gratification. On Kennesaw State University Campus, the school used to have a toll booth where students/visitors had to pay attendants money to park their car in the parking lot. Civilizations documents and keep records of historical events so we will not have to repeat the same mistakes over again. Reading is a form of learning that not only teaches humans about past historical events, but languages, cultures and all the things the world has to offer. I can remember when the nook color was put on the market by Barnes and Nobles. When I was in eighth grade I wanted one so much that eventually my grandma bought it for me as a Christmas gift. For the first couple of months the nook color was all that I read my books on. Then, I started missing the feel of an actual paperback book in my hands. I really missed a paperback book when the teacher said that I could not read on the nook during school hours because it was considered an electronic. A year later I was reading my nook when it all of a sudden cut off on me and would not turn on again. The moral behind the story is that technology’s lifespan is brief. It is created to last 5 years or less, while the United States and other Countries have hard back copies of books that was written hundreds of years ago. Yes, it may be faster to pay for an ebook online than getting out of bed and going to the store to purchase it, but at the end of the day it is just an electronic image of a copy. Reading on an electronic device is not the same as having a hard copy of a book in your hands. On a tablet you will not be able to see the wear
