My Passion For Mathematics

Great Essays
Since my years in middle school, I had fostered an intense passion toward Mathematics particularly, as well as other natural science disciplines in general. Therefore, it had been my anticipation since then to select a career in the realm of STEM ( Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics); however, which exact career was still an uncertainty. My interest varied inconsistently throughout my early years in high school, as I initially wanted to become a pharmacist, and subsequently a high school math teacher. Momentarily, I also became skeptical about my passion toward Mathematics since I was clueless about whether I enjoyed the subject simply because I excelled at it or I truly liked it. Such a doubt stuck with me for a while until my Junior year in high school when I had the …show more content…
Given each time before we studied a new concept, Mr. Claydon’s unique exploration activities had triggered my curiosity to its fullest, and I realized how passionate I was toward Mathematics each time I successfully discovered a pattern to solve a difficult problem. With my sole passion accompanied with the practical knowledge I had assimilated in his class, the primary concept my future career, in which I would be able to enjoy my interest while benefit a greater community, started to develop. Mr. Claydon and I often exchanged conversations about the mathematical practicability in the field of engineering during my Senior year, and he encouraged me to conduct a search about different engineering disciplines to determine a suitable career choice for me. Many people have different opinions about what they think about math. For instance, I looked up opinions people said about math and most of them were negative. One person stated: “I know a lot of people don’t like it. For me, I was good at the subject, but I didn’t really enjoy it.” In the story “Why is Math so important for kids to learn?” by Elise Wile, the author’s attitude toward Math is interested for these reasons: (1) she explains how it teaches logical and critical thinking, (2) she explains how it teaches life skills, and (3) she also explains how it supports continuing education and careers.…

My interest in physics was initially ignited during my sophomore year. I signed up for AP Physics 1, taught by a teacher in his first year, right out of college. His main goal was to encourage students to apply physics to the world around them and identify the relevancy of the course material. I was immediately hooked and I bought book after book about Einstein's Theory of Relativity, the Big Bang, and quantum mechanics. I was eager to learn as much as I could; in doing so, I realized that working in a laboratory setting, conducting experiments and applying equations, is something that I am truly passionate about.…

Many students tend to join extracurriculars their friends join. Rather than picking the club that describes them as who they are, they drift towards activities that have more members or “look good” on college applications. When I was a freshman, I joined eleven clubs, signing up for whichever clubs my friends told me to. My email was filled with the dates of club meetings I could not recall joining. As the year progressed and I realized which clubs I had a passion for.…

This led to thinking about if I will possess enough knowledge about both simple school related things, and dealing with a school setting. I had never had to sit through classes, or deal with the unique social setting of school.…
