My Participation In America

To describe my participation with Ken for the Capoeira, I had no optimism, but I have learnt several Capoeira moves and its history. Firstly, the main reason that made this class not enjoyable was that I had to present what I’ve learnt. I had no confidence and always had a negative mind. However, I mostly enjoyed learning its history and learn some basic Capoeira moves. When I hear the word “Capoeira”, the first thing that came up to my head was, “Dancing”. Throughout this unit, I learned that native Brazilians, who were slaves, were not allowed to learn martial arts. If they were caught practising martial arts, they would be facing a severe punishment. Then they had the idea of infusing the martial art with music so that they can disguise in dance.

Some things that was outside of my comfort zone were, having to perform around my peers. Whenever I have to show my performance, I always think about the negative and reputation. For example, I think about what would ruin my performance? What would happen if I do? What will happen throughout the year if I make a mistake? I played the triangles for the performance and it was really hard to stay on beat since I was surrounded by loud instruments. It was really hard to hear noise of my instrument. I felt pretty confident for participating in samba because I didn't have to perform individually. However, the outcome of our performance was not what I have expected. We were completely off beat and I misunderstood some of the instruction during the performance (signal/hand gesture). In order to feel prepared, there should have been more Samba classes than Capoeira classes. I can practice Capoeira whenever I have free time. On the other hand, I don’t have the instrument at home so I would not be able to practice by myself. Overall, I enjoyed Samba and learned several things as well as gained some
