Parents need to be a part of it in order for education and learning to happen. If education is not important to parents, children get that. Parents need to be a part of their child’s education. One way that a parent/caregiver can get involved is by assisting their children with the homework, volunteering to read a book aloud to the students, taking their kids to the library and attending school functions. A “model” parent or caregiver is someone that values education. A “model” parent or caregiver is someone that sets their child up for success by making sure there is a routine at home such as setting time for their child to read or write independently at home. When I interviewed the parent on how communication is facilitated between the home and school she said that the school is in constant communication with her. They are always calling her house when her daughter doesn’t go to school. She has also developed a good communication with the teacher because the teacher calls her when her child forgets to do the homework. She often gets sent letters with her daughter and written reports about her daughter’s progress. Overall, she feels satisfied with the level of communication between her and the school her daughter attends. However, she also feels that one way to improve communication between the parents and the school is to have the phone calls in Spanish since her daughter’s teacher only speaks English and she understands English more than what she can
