My Own Working Experience

This summer I became a care assistant at a local care home. The driver behind me pursuing this was my desire to give back to the local community, a desire that Hogan Lovells demonstrates through your pro bono work. Doing this I was able to provide care and assistance to some of the most vulnerable people in our society. For the past two years I have worked at a local retirement home in the dining room. Although the residents are not my patients, they still look for that personal connection. Once I took a few extra minutes out of my day to talk about a TV show with a resident. Now this may seem like a simple gesture, and truthfully it was, but to that resident is meant a whole lot more. At the end of our conversation, she told me that the past five minutes made her happy she got out of bed.…

When I started working as a CAN, as well as volunteering in the health care field, I understood that the work involved included helping residents in activities of daily living. What I found out after I started working was how much of an impact the job makes on people. When I was volunteering to help a woman go grocery shopping I did not think much of it. However, when I came into her home and started putting her groceries away she started tearing up. I found out that she and her husband used to always go grocery shopping together and would later play a game that involved putting the groceries away.…

Becoming an AGPCNP will provide me with the knowledge and training to safely and effectively treat adult patients across the lifespan. Although I entered this program planning to work as an FNP, experiences during the pre-specialty year have confirmed my passion for the adult patient. Specifically, I hope to serve rural communities as a primary care provider, focusing my practice on the management of chronic disease in older adults. My passion for older adults is rooted in the experiences I had throughout the summers of my undergraduate career. I spent my summers with a nonprofit in rural North Carolina partnering with churches, social workers, and businesses to complete home repair for low-income families.…

During my employment at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates in Boston I was able to work with a graduate of MCPHS, Kaiming (Kyle) Chiang, MPAS, PA-C. His knowledge and comprehension of his role as well as his eagerness to always do more inspired me. Kyle’s professionalism and confidence led him to be a favorite among several patients; he was able to diagnose with confidence; and was able to communicate with the patients in a way that they would be able to understand. Kyle was always an advocate for MCPHS and as I continued to work with him I was able to see, not only his passion, but the knowledge he gleaned from his time at MCPHS. I knew that MCPHS was not only a school that prepared their students well for the workplace, but also teaches them in a manner where patient education and…

For example, personal care, domestic tasks, socialising, and work. From this moment, the physical function of the human body has been an interest of mine. I’ve worked my entire adult life helping others. Starting when I was just 19 years old I began working at a group home people with developmental disabilities and chronic mental health issues. The clients in these homes were often placed straight from secure psychiatric units and had unpleasant, and at times, criminal histories. This is the environment where I first found my strengths. I could easily engage with people without regard for their sordid history and help them work through their own thoughts.…
