When I had been in first grade, my class was granted the opportunity to write the President at the time, Bill Clinton. I was a fortunate student. Only I had received a letter along with a framed autographed photo of him and First Lady Hillary Clinton. The letter together with the photo made me ecstatic. I became reclusive from a young age, and this letter helped to boost my esteem. The President wrote to me! Little did I realize that I would soon see him announce to the American people that he lied to us all while being under oath.

I stood there eager to vote, holding my credentials in hand. In the booth, I sped through the issues, governors, senators, mayors, and any of the other ones I hadn’t taken any time to read up on. Finally I came to it, deciding who I wanted to be President of the United States? Who do I want to be President? Some guy named John McCain, or the guy that I had already heard about? Barrack Obama got my vote. I left feeling as though I had accomplished some amazing feat, but looking back, I could kick myself for being so ignorant. “Libertarianism derives from the word ‘liberty’, and it means a person who advocates for being fiscally conservative and for maximizing individual civil liberty. A libertarian believes that each individual in entitled to live their life as they please in the pursuit of their own happiness, as long as they are not infringing on someone else’s right to do the same.” He explained to me. Nick told me of some of his favorite historical figures whom he felt were most ideologically aligned with libertarian principles. Thomas Jefferson and James Madison were a couple of his favorites.
