Education today, in my opinion, is not doing what it should be doing to ensure that America is actually living up to what it is known for...the land of opportunities. I believe that education should be about an empowering experience that helps students discover their passions, fosters their critical thinking skills, promotes an environment that accepts diversity, and encourages students to apply to skills to the outside world. This should be he purpose of American public schooling because it will help society adapt to changing times and encourage the growth of a well-rounded, modern, and accepting culture which in the long run help foster peace and equality. Many students who do not receive the opportunity to attend a very well developed school do not have the chance to discover what inspires them or what they’re passionate about, which later can become an obstacle. In the SouthEast Education Network (SEEN) magazine called “Foster Passion and Purpose in your student’s schools the author Levi Brackman discusses the importance of passion and purpose as students pursue their education. For example he reveals “if you help a student find their purpose in life, everything else around them, their entire education, their extracurricular activities and everything in between, will be seen through the prism of that overriding purpose in life…,”(1). Ledward and Dorothy Hirata discuss the idea that education should be able to adjust to this century in order to prepare people for what is most valued in today’s society. The authors suggest that “education must be upgraded for learners to thrive in new global economy. Success in today’s world requires the ability to access, synthesize, and communicate information; to work collaboratively across differences to solve complex problems; and to create new knowledge through the innovative use of multiple technologies,” (1).
