My Oma Research Paper

My earliest memories of literacy take me back to the times I had with my grandmother. I should begin by stating she is not grandma, she is now and forever will be my Oma. As a little girl when my parents were at work, I would spend my days at my grandparents, and in particular with my Oma. I loved it at my grandparents as a child, and I still love being there to this day; it is like my second home. My grandparents live in a house they built on a lake in White Pigeon, Michigan. Every summer I would spend hours going on walks with my grandparents, swimming and boating in the lake, and following my grandparents around the yard as they worked in it. Additionally, every Christmas Eve from the time I was born until this past year has been spent there, …show more content…
Thus, it was just my Oma and I, on the weekdays I would spend at their home. I have many memories of Oma and me on these days, memories I will forever cherish. In the winter, we would build snowmen or sled down their driveway, in the fall we would build leave houses, in the spring, we would go on walks and begin to care for her vegetable and flower gardens, and in the summer, we would swim and boat in the lake. Throughout these happy memories, there is still one memory that stands out, my Oma teaching me how to …show more content…
When I was finished reading she would play the tape back for me to listen and again sometimes the next time we read. I know that in reading, Oma didn’t really have any special tactics to teaching me how to read, and I was learning in school as well. Still, the act of here sitting me down to read together every time I would be at her house influenced my life a great deal. The practice and repetition really helped my learning progress; because she recorded many of our reading sessions I could hear my own progression did learning.
The times my Oma and I spend reading are very special, it was something that was just ours; we wouldn’t let anyone else participate. In the time we spent together, listening to each other reading, and me practicing my own reading, I truly feel that I improved as a reader. And the memories made are forever in my heart and my
