Thus, it was just my Oma and I, on the weekdays I would spend at their home. I have many memories of Oma and me on these days, memories I will forever cherish. In the winter, we would build snowmen or sled down their driveway, in the fall we would build leave houses, in the spring, we would go on walks and begin to care for her vegetable and flower gardens, and in the summer, we would swim and boat in the lake. When I was finished reading she would play the tape back for me to listen and again sometimes the next time we read. I know that in reading, Oma didn’t really have any special tactics to teaching me how to read, and I was learning in school as well. Still, the act of here sitting me down to read together every time I would be at her house influenced my life a great deal. The practice and repetition really helped my learning progress; because she recorded many of our reading sessions I could hear my own progression did learning.
The times my Oma and I spend reading are very special, it was something that was just ours; we wouldn’t let anyone else participate.
