My Oma Research Paper

In a very minute town was Austria was a place that I considered my second home, my Oma’s house. In English we would say grandmother but in German it is known as “Oma”. Every summer since I was two years young, I visited my grandmother in the house that my mother grew up in. There was no better feeling than walking through the front doors of the house that my grandmother kept nice and clean over the years of dealing with many generations of children, and smelling that delicious aroma coming from the kitchen. As I vividly remembered, the kitchen was the third door on the left of the main hallway and as I walked down the hallway with the light wool carpet, that my grandma cleaned every five minutes, I could never wait to see what was cooking on the stove. My grandmothers’ house was very special to me not only because of the many childhood memories and family traditions that were made at the dinner table but because I learned many things from my Oma and Opa. …show more content…
Growing up in a small apartment in New York City with my mother and older sister, we did not have much family surrounding us. My mothers’ end of the family was spread out all throughout Europe and my father was not really present in my life at the time. I valued family time in Austria with my grandparents the most because my Opa and Oma taught me things I would not be able to learn from a handbook such as common knowledge and the desire to always stay positive in negative
