My Observation Of Children In The IFSP Meeting

Decent Essays
During this conversation, I was able to make the parent feel comfortable and we talked with confidence. Although this was the first time that I attended the IFSP meeting, I was able to talk with the parent and other team members. The mother was very involved. However, when the team left the room, I talked with her and I listen to her carefully, and we talked about her child’s need, strengths, and what areas that she needs us to focus on. I encouraged her to be active and involved through trust-building and listening to her concerns regards her child. Indeed, I built my intervention that regarding her concerns beside the result of my observation. I told her that we can improve her child speech when we work together in his language development.

As a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) my duties and responsibilities were that of offering special rehabilitation to children with any type of disorders, from speech to learning disabilities. It was to improve their overall day-to-day function in their home, and in society. Many of the children in which I treated all differed in the type of behavior they presented, the therapy and or modification of their reformation would greatly fluctuate depending on the case of each child. Each child had a set of goals that would have to be accomplished in order to reinforce the given behavior, strengthening their improvement. The SENCO would in turn speak to the child’s parents about their child’s development, and depending on the area of development concerned, suggest an assessment by an outside professional. It is important that any needs are identified so that the correct support/intervention is given in order to prevent the development delay getting worse and spreading to other areas of the child’s development. After completing this assignment, I’ve learned several ways to adapt to the children and help them succeed to the best of their abilities by helping them take responsibility and become more independent. I plan to use this information to shape my interactions with children when I become a teacher. I will definitely be taking into consideration of the children who are not fully developed yet and need more help interacting with others and doing things on their own. Along with this, encouraging conversation between students can help them develop and see the role of language being used. I see this in my focus child through questioning, interrupting, and simply talking to her peers.…

As a speech pathologist in early intervention and in the education arena, I have assessed a diverse population of children birth-three years old, as well as school aged children. The Preschool School Language Scale- Fifth Edition (PLS-5) and the Battelle Developmental Inventory-Second Edition (BDI-2) are both designed to address the communication development in young children.
