Maintaining own physical and mental health is important when caring for others. The nurse has to see past own stress to addressing the patient’s needs.
Commitment to patient advocacy becomes the nurse’s drive for the care of the patient. The nurse advocates for proper treatment. Gathers information on patient condition via assessment and other clinical tools. With this information, the nurse will start the process of advocating for appropriate interventions. The nurse will be aware of resource available both within the facility and in the community to best advocate for the patient needs.
The nurse also embodies the role of an educator. We must constantly use our knowledge to teach others on self-care, risk factors, safety, and well-being. Educating the simplest way to care for a minor ailment, to the most complex of conditions. The process of being proactive and informed on up to date new treatments and diagnosis to better serve their patient. Nurses must also be responsible for their own education as well. Seeking higher degrees or opportunities to gain new skills through certification and classes, the nurse learns to adapt to the ever changing world of healthcare and remains at the center of patient
