The views and preferences of the patient in the decision making process are supported by nurses. As noted above, when a patient is diagnosed with cancer, they are given choices based on the best available evidence. Environment is where a person or a patient is currently situated – it can be a home, hospital, clinic or community. Wherever it is, an environment is a place where it should support healing and should foster growth. It should be calm, stress free and peaceful. We have to keep in mind that an environment and person are connected with each other and they cannot be separated; the beliefs, life experiences, and values of each and every patient are derived from the environment. Only us as a person can make changes or manipulate the environment we live or stay in. When I approach a patient or care for a patient, I take into consideration where a patient came from.
