Something that sat with me the most is accepting and helping those in need, no matter who they are. God wants us to love each other, and not cause further harm towards one another, and I feel that this applies the most too nursing. I as a nurse cannot treat one patient over another because of their status or even if their injuries are worse. What I as a nurse need to learn to do is to remember that in the eyes of God, all are equal and all deserve help. So even if someone is a prisoner, homeless or shunned in society, they are the ones that truly need help and they are the ones that I should treat no differently than an educated man. Just because one patient may not be sicker than another, does not mean they deserve less care from a nurse. All patients suffer and it is my job to treat them as I myself would want to be treated; how God would want me to treat others.

We are in a job where we will question God and question why someone has to suffer or why we have to help those who can’t even help themselves. What I have learnt in Theology has helped me gain a better understanding of what I need to do as a nurse and why my job is so important. Rather than blaming God or the world, I can move forward being a better person and nurse as I can now look at my situation with fresh eyes, rather than seeing ones suffering so negatively. Although nursing can be seen as a thankless job, I know that God would be thankful for me helping those in need, just as Jesus
