I was very interested in the video. Overall the video gave me a nostalgic feeling, and I found it very intriguing how the actors portray how each excerpt of the piece came to be. Some nonmusical elements that I found in the in the video were simple things like the actors acting what happened and how the piece came to be. Another nonmusical element would be the narrating that is going on. Some cultural context that I noticed was Russian and Lithuanian roots in the play. Stravinsky is a Russian composer, so this leads me to believe that the work is based in Russia. It is very clear that there are some Russian and Lithuanian effects that are found. Some significant influences I found in the video was the other actor in the video, who talked to Stravinsky so much influenced him greatly. He also uses some instruments to influence people like he uses the duduk. I believe that The Rite of Spring is truly one of the greatest milestones in art music repertory because how groundbreaking and different it is. …show more content…
It feels mysterious to me. The melody is with the string instruments as they play the BA… BA for the entirety of this piece. This is then backed with silence which gives it that curious feel. The instrumentation for this section is strings instruments and a flute playing. The musical character for this part is very mysterious. My reaction for this section is that feeling that you get after someone gets murdered on a television series.
For part 8 we are immediately introduced quickly from the tympani and the texture is fairly dense and anxious feeling. The tempo is very presto and fast moving for this section. The melody is with the brass instruments, probably trumpet, and is backed by the percussion. The entire orchestra is playing here with a lot going on everywhere for this section. The musical character is once again powerful and dominating. My reaction for this part is simply put as feeling an intense madness
