My North Cape Has Influenced Me

Improved Essays
North Cape has influenced me by opening me up to other people. I was really shy when I first came here, still am, but over time I've learned to talk to people. Along with that I've learned values and knowledge that I will retain for the rest of my life. It will feel weird to not go here next year. North Cape has pretty much been my life for the past nine years. My dad and his sister went there when they were kids along with my sister. Granted, the teachers who taught them have come and gone, but the values haven't.

I've had so many memories with everyone here. Everyone is different, but for the most part, they are friendly. Most of my friends I've known since kindergarten and others came in later. Mike A and Brett are my two best friends.

“Making a big life change is pretty scary. But, you know what’s even scarier?Regret.” This quote is from an anonymous person, but it relates because August made the decision to go to an ordinary public school for the first time and it was my first time going into public school. August and I had a choice whether or not he wanted to try public school and my choice was to attend public school or private school. My essay will examine how I can relate to August Pullman in a new school environment because I moved from Orlando, FL to Oxford just last year.…

It showed me that there was much much more to see and to explore in the world, even if it seems like it’s all the same. Sure, you can say that a beach is a beach or every place has that, but a beach in California isn’t going to be the same as a beach in Florida or a beach in Brazil. It may not have white sand and sapphire waters, but the beach in Charleston will always be my first beach. The storms I experienced in Charleston will always be the origin point of my interest in bizarre weather. Charleston certainly isn’t New York or Los Angeles by any means of comparison, but it’s a place that gave me something more to see than the standard Midwest visuals I’m accustomed…

In 2006, I began my journey at The Valley School as a first grade student. Moving over from my previous school, which I had attended from the time I was three until I was six years old, was fairly smooth. I had friends who made the switch with me and, being the social butterfly I was, making new friends was a breeze. In the first few years as a student, I saw Valley move into three buildings.…

Moving here from North Carolina when I was four changed my life completely, I was away from my family who I lived with my whole life, thrown into a school with a bunch of kids who lived here since they were born and told to “make friends.” This changed the next 13 years of my life to something I can never picture not having. The first four years, both my parents had full time jobs and my grandma helped raise me a lot, she taught me so many manners and how to behave, she even ended up living across the street from me for 2 of those years, they were rough for my parents, new baby, just moving, having to find jobs, making friends, and getting food on the table for me. Thats where my amazing family came in, with bringing home cooked meals…

I will never forget the day that my parents told me we were moving to Colorado. I had a wide range of emotions towards this, I was both nervous and excited. I can explain it best as the moment before the fall on a roller coaster, the butterflies building up in your stomach as the bottom of the hill is not insight but the ride down is sure to be amazing. Much like roller coasters new experiences have no true end in sight but the journey along the way with all the twists and turns are sure to change you as a person. New experiences like moving help you grow as a person, because you are introduced to so many new things like being surrounded by new people who have many different viewpoints, to being in a new atmosphere with so many new opportunities all of which shape you as a person and they also present a great deal of life lessons.…

Volunteering at The Salvation Army I realized this was my chance to make a difference. When people hear that a person is “homeless,” I’m sure the first thing that comes to mind is a bum, dirty clothes, a drug addict, and a drunk. However, that is not the case at all. Living in times like these, recession plays a huge role on unemployment rates which eventually leads to homelessness. Not only that but natural disasters like Hurricane Sandy, left thousands of people homeless in New York.…
