When I returned home, I begged and pleaded with my parents to sign me up for piano lessons, and I abandoned my bow for a bench.
Piano soon evolved from five finger melodies into minuets, from sonatinas into sonatas. While the complexity of the music has changed, learning each new piece of music feels the same. The process is intriguing at first,

For regions that rely on tourism, the loss of sand from their beaches to overmining could prove potentially catastrophic. Singapore and Dubai have used illegally mined sand bought on a black market to enlarge their coastlines artificially and to build skyscrapers. Meanwhile, Indonesia has lost entire islands, as Singapore uses Indonesian sand to build into the ocean. Singapore has seen disputes with Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Cambodia due to its use of sand in expanding their territory. In 2003, Malaysia claimed that, under the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, Singapore’s use of sand was encroaching on its sovereignty and endangering the livelihood of Malaysian fishermen. Japan and China have fought over the drawing of international waters as both countries have developed islands using sand to enlarge their territory. In the South China Sea, China has used sand to create seven news islets in the region, exacerbating the pre-existing geopolitical conflict between China and Vietnam. As countries expand their territory, the reconsideration of international borders is skewed towards wealthier

College is a life changing investment that prepares for life and career. The vast spectrum of knowledge, skills obtained, and experiences from a college degree more than compensates for the monetary cost of tuition. Creating art is my passion; I have always wanted to become a great artist ever since I was a child drawing on my walls and copying pictures from books. I have devoted my life to improving my talents by illustrating my own stories, practicing drawing daily, and challenging myself to earning my own money doing what I love by drawing commissions. Learning how to communicate through illustration is a valuable skill that will live with me for the rest of my life and progressing my artist career.…

Hello Mr. Gershenson, I am the composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, and I will be telling you about my early life and education, early success and failures, and most famous pieces and achievements before my life ended in 1983 at age 53. Cholera is said to be the reason I passed away as well as the reason that my mom sadly passed away when I was 14 while attending boarding school in St. Petersburg. Throughout my life I have always regret the past, hoped in the future, and have been unsatisfied with the present. I was born on May 7, 1840, and I started taking piano lessons when I was 5. Music wasn’t an option in Russian schools at the time, so my parents and I never thought that I would pursue a career in music.…

One of the keys coming into the playoffs was to generate a pass rush to take the pressure off of a beleaguered secondary that was ravaged by injuries late in the season. They did exactly that on the first play for the Seahawks it was a tackle for loss the next play was a pick six by Luke Kuechly throwing a haymaker up 14-0 just 3 1/2 minutes into the game a magical start they continued through the first half. The pressure we were able to generate was a sight for sore eyes, as the outside guys hadn't gotten a sack since the Thanksgiving showdown against Dallas. It was great to see us force Russell Wilson into bad decisions and put them behind the chains with four sacks.…

I began to play when I was eight years old, as my parents wanted me to develop other interests besides simply playing sports and video games. At first, I was hesitant about learning an instrument. The thought of playing the piano sounded dull and “uncool” for a person my age at the time. I protested, but from the moment my fingers first touched the keys and I realized that I was able to create beautiful sounds, I readily embraced the challenge of learning something…

The relationship between the United States and China will perhaps shape international order more than any other phenomenon. One could argue, though, that competition between the US and China is most acute in the physical space of the Asia-Pacific region. Even though the US has been the transcendent power there for as far back as seven decades now, it is still China's lawn and, going back hundreds of years, the center of its worldview. The South China Sea emerges as a significant chronicle for three sets of interactions: those between the US and China, China and its neighbors, and…
