The first essay that I wrote for EN100 was the Literacy Narrative Essay. Although this assignment seemed dreadful, this essay made me realize how much was expected of me, and how far my writing was from those expectations. Throughout the course of the semester, my writing vastly improved, getting closer and closer to meeting expectations. The Discourse Community Essay was so close to those expectations, and the Informative Essay was right where I wanted it to be.

In writing my Literacy Narrative Essay, there were considerably more negative things than positive. Starting out, my grammar was less than stellar. My previous English teacher focused on teaching reading comprehension, so when the new English teacher, Mrs. Miinch, came

The task of finding a discourse community and figuring out when to observe seemed daunting at first. I thought and thought, then remembered that I know one of the elementary teachers at my school and contacted her. She was excited to have the opportunity to see me again and we setup dates for me to observe her sixth-grade class. Finding a way to organize my observations was difficult; I ended up observing a sixth-grade class without a previous idea for an organization method. I wrote down what I saw as I saw it and figured out what order I was going to use it when I wrote my outline for the body paragraphs. I was more comfortable with creating an outline, but still unsure how to outline my introduction and conclusion. Moving from one paragraph to the next, I could have done better in smooth transitions and shifting my topic. Also, I added extra information that didn’t help my essay like I originally thought it would My title and introduction paragraph were up to par and once I started writing the content came easily I was very pleased with my essay overall, and excited to use what I had learned to make a great Informative

Does rejection or determination push you to go beyond the limits of what one expects of you? Most everyone would say it does, but does this only affect those of us who want to be writers? It definitely does not, nor is it limited to anyone of a particular language. People of different backgrounds, all have the same urge to learn something not entirely expected of them, even if it is just a different language. The writings of people, while very similar, have a great number of differences.…

Literacy Narrative I did a lot of writing while I was in the tenth grade. The English teacher I had at the time was the best when it came down to writing. I did not have too much interest in writing at the time but Mrs. Perez changed that, she gave me a new perception on writing and how it can change society. Mrs. Perez would always recommend really good books, one of which was a book called “His Dark Materials”. This story is about a young girl and her allies, fight for the discover of a dark substance called the “Dust”.…

On May 20, 2016, my adviser and I sat down to have a discussion about the university required courses and courses that was mandatory for the Liberal Arts college. English 101 was one of the classes I chose to take my first semester because I knew I had more knowledge on writing efficient papers because of my previous AP English courses in high school. In high school, I was always told that I was an adequate writer because I knew the basic of connecting ideas that provided a clear concrete understanding. However, the only time I received an unsatisfactory score was when the information I included in my paper was unorganized. Also, another reason I chose to take English my first semester instead of my second semester was because I knew I needed…

Over the course of English 102, I have developed a new set of skills and learned to become a better writer. When I first came into English 102 I struggled with many different concepts of writing. During the semester in English 102, my writing became stronger because I learned how to incorporate evidence into my argument, do more thorough research, have smoother transitions, and have more organization throughout my essay. I learned how to peer review better and to take what others say and incorporate it into my essay. In the beginning, before English 102, I struggled with good organization and flow to an essay, sandwich evidence into paragraphs, and having strong arguments in persuasive essays.…

English 1010, defined by academic standards, is to develop in first-year college writers a deeper understanding of the complexities of writing through instruction and guided practice in the skills, processes, and strategies necessary for effective, successful writing. In my past semester of English 1010, I was able to demonstrate my abilities to be an effective writer and enhance my writing skills through guiding essay projects. I do believe my abilities were improved in topics including: finding the author’s purpose, explaining ideas, revising, editing, proofreading, organizing the structure of my paper, and etc.…
