Personal Narrative: My Journey To Hawaii

Improved Essays
My grand adventure to Hawaii had already begun many hours ago at the airport in L.A. Not every amazing adventure starts with a blood pumping start; sometimes it’s the quiet starts that are the best trips. The plane was quiet as everyone slept their way through the flight. The only sounds heard were the gentle hum of the plane and the soft footsteps of the flight stewardesses. I was still awake looking over the expanse of the ocean seeing nothing but the waves in the water and the occasional cloud float by with it all being illuminated by the glow of the moon. As we approached the island of Maui I could see the lights lining the shores like little lightning bugs. The plane had begun its decent onto what already looked like a beautiful island …show more content…
The window in the living room looked out over the nearby beach as the sun rose over the horizon and the light reflected spectacularly off the waves of the deep blue ocean. The most important part of the day was not to be the ocean today, no matter how beautiful. The goal of the day was for us to drive along The Road to Maui, although short it was something to devote an entire day to. Almost the entire road was twisting and winding the edge of the island. If you would glance to the side the cliff edge was immediately next to you. The entire day trip put the island colors on display for my family. There were the vibrant reds of all the flowers in the forest dotted among the greens of the trees and fauna. The deep blue ocean rising behind the tree line reflecting the same sun I saw that morning. The white fluffy clouds that told of rain floated peacefully through the sky. Along this trip we did not just take in the stunning sights the island had to offer. There were many small bodies of water and waterfalls dotted within the trees, hidden from sight. Jumping into these small pools was extremely refreshing when under the warm sun in the middle of the day. It was not only the pools of water in the forest that kept us cool. As the darker clouds covered the blue sky we found one of the caves on the island. Without the light of our borrowed flashlights we would not have been able to see our own hands and without …show more content…
We had arrived early in the day so the various peaks were still covered in the early morning fog that just added to the stunning sight. We were at a bowl in the mountain with a few peaks around us, so most of our view was limited to the mountain except for the way we came. That direction was open like the curtain to a show and as the sun moved across the sky the light would drag across the landscape. I could nearly see to the far side of the island before the earth rose higher to try to meet the sky. Nearer to us the peaks of the mountain was covered in greens that was being painted in various shades by the new days

There are many places I hold dear to my heart such as traveling to the mountains, visiting my grandma or going down to the Russian River and swimming in the freezing green river. But one particular place that stands out in my memory is Mount Shastina. We have gone to Mount Shastina during times of snow and during times of intense heat, which has exposed me to different activities that depend upon the climate. I have been going there, to McCloud, which is North of Mt. Shasta, with my family for as long as I can remember. In the center of a desert lies our rustic cabin with 3 bedrooms and a nice fireplace to keep us warm.…

The neighborhood was noiseless, and the sky was pitch black, for there had been no moon on that summer morning in June. My mother and father started our car and waited for Sofia,my sister, sean ,my friend, and me to get inside. It was time to leave our dull suburban home in San Jose, and drive to the beloved National Park, Yosemite, to hike Half Dome. On the car ride there I had slept, but awoke right when we had gotten into the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Looking outside of the window and noticing all of the evergreen trees was surreal for me, as I rolled down my window a strong smell of pine and fresh air poured into the car.…

As we continued our drive, the day felt like any other of our typical adventures. We went to go camping at Skinny Dip Falls about 30 miles into the Parkway. Macklemore was playing from the stereo, and my head was pressed against the window, taking in everything the scenery had to offer. I was infatuated with how the layers of mountains seem to fade away perfectly the further they were. There was a fog that clung low to the valleys giving off a “smoky” appearance, which is the reasoning behind its nickname “The Great Smoky Mountains”.…

Feet dangling over the ancient cliff, the breeze whispered sweet nothings as it swept by. Thoughts are consumed by the overwhelming beauty that seems closer as ever before. There was only this moment, only the great expanse, only the sweet smell of fresh flowers that popped up wherever they could. Sliding my hands over the rock, feeling every smooth crevice in the cliff and imagining the stories behind every one of them. Thinking back to the history, the thousand years that it took to create something so breathtaking.…

Crossing the sidewalk into the large park was like crossing the border into another world.…
