My Music And Music's Role In My Life

Great Essays

Starting on my mother’s side with my mother; she tries very hard but lacks a sense of both rhythm and pitch however that never stopped her from singing me lullabies. Continuing on to the generation before my mom there is my grandmother who is very musical. I grew up playing guitar and singing/writing songs with my grandmother as well as with all her siblings who are very musically inclined. On my mother’s side the musical involvement stops there with my great-grandparents only musical contribution was singing at church. On my father’s side is where I see the most musical involvement. My father was always surrounded by music growing up because of his father and because of him I also did. My dad is constantly playing shows at markets or restaurants with his accordion. My grandmother has a beautiful voice and growing up I was always surrounded by it. My grandfather whom I mention a lot about later on was the most musical man in my life. Beforehand, music was what I did for myself as an outlet or to perform and share with others, for own happiness. Now it still does all those things for me and I continue to use it as an outlet but I also view it now as my future career so there are things I take much more seriously. Throughout my teenage years like I said I played when I felt like it or practiced before a gig whereas now practicing has become part of my everyday routine. I find that I think about music differently now simply because of the knowledge I have acquired through my studies. Going into depth in regards to music theory I find the way I see and hear music has changed. In the end, music is in my life much more than it has ever been which I couldn’t be more thankful
