While attending Chiefland Elementary School, I had the privileged of interviewing my field experience teacher Ms. Sidorenko who happens to be my darling mother. Many people say that we have a lot of features in common, but it doesn’t stop there because we both wanted to be a teacher. My mother teaches kindergarten through fifth grade. She has been teaching at Chiefland Elementary for three years, but she has been in education field for ten years. She first started as a tutor and then a teacher’s aide. This coming up fall she will be graduating with her masters in Elementary Education. My mother’s reasoning for entering the teaching profession is because she wanted to make a difference in children’s lives and she thought becoming a teacher would pursue that goal. Even though I had some sort of perspective of what my mother does as a teacher, but after this interview I have gained a whole new perspective. The information that my mother shared with me affected me because when she explained her schedule, I was taken back for a minute. She does so much in a day and then after that she comes home and is a mother and a father to me and my little sister. It made me appreciate her more than I ever did. My mother influence on me was both negative and positive. I love the fact that she is still able to have some fun in the classroom, but I did not like the amount of paper work that had to be done in a month. It was a real eye opener to what a teacher goes through on a daily basis and she has definitely present realistic picture of the teaching profession. In the end, I am ready to put in the hard work at the end of the day because I know I am making a difference in a child’s

I think it is excellent that she stands up for what she believes and doesn’t let anything stop her. I think it is great that she has found a way that kindergarteners can write so well. I really like her ability based groups during writing. I think this is a good idea to build students social skills as well because they can collaborate with the students at their table. I can also see how this could be bad if I don’t have good classroom management I think this is something that lacks in some classrooms.…

Most people imagine a teacher as someone who is in their late 30’s or older teaching in a classroom. Many lessons are taught in the classroom, but many more lessons are taught outside of the classroom. My cousin Keisha and her daughter, KaLeiah, have been the greatest teachers I ever have had in my life. KaLeiah is a three-year old, a tall, lean, energetic little girl with beautiful light brown skin, just like her mother. She has dark black afro hair, and mix of shades of brown eyes, which has filled me with the will to open my heart and mind to the world.…

Since starting high school, my interest in classroom learning had dropped quite significantly. I felt like grades were just a game, and that I should be out in the world learning things I deemed "practical life skills." My senior year I was able to mentor in a classroom of fourth graders for one period, ever other day. I took the class thinking it would be an easy and fun way to spend an hour an a half.…

1 I come from a long line of educators and administrators on both sides of my family. Various relatives of mine have taught me to understand and appreciate the importance of education. This being the case, they have inspired my decision to be a teacher, preferably an elementary school teacher. Last year, I sat in on my aunt’s third grade class at Washington Irving, an elementary school in my district that I attended for three years. After visiting the classroom a handful of times, I absolutely fell in love.…
