Super Mom A famous comedian and actor Robin Williams once said, “No matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change the world” (Brainy Quotes 1). However, in this case with single parents words can change how many people see single parents in society. In many schools, there are kids that are just being raised by one parent; most likely the mother. In a recent article by Marissa Hicks, she shows the experiences that she has had herself as being a single parent in today’s society. She has dealt with many people telling her that her kids will have problems in the future compared to children that are in a nuclear family. Trust issues are not the biggest issue for children to have, but this is often the first issue that society judges on. Even though being a single parent is often thought of as a risk for children, society should realize that they should not stereotype single parents. Although stereotypes show that single parenting is difficult, Marissa Hicks shows that stereotypes are not always true to follow. Marissa Hicks is a single mother to her daughter and society does not let that fact get past her. The reason being is that both parents go through similar situations, although one has only one parent. It is disheartening and frustrating that so many are still facing outdated stigma in their daily lives” (Moss 2). This advantage shows that single parents are able to do things and still do a fantastic job at it even in a hard time.
