My hair is really long at this point down to my lower back, but the reason I decided to grow it out was for this special occasions. I straiten my hair flat last night and curled the end so my cap would set perfectly on top. I stayed up last night until around three in the morning doing my hair, which luckily I knew it would take that long, which is why I decided to do it then and touch it up in the morning. I wasn’t going to be able to sleep all night so staying busy was better than twisting and turning in bed not resting. After I got that done I went to see my mother to see if she could help me calm my nerves. My mother has always supported me and made me feel more courageous in situations when am doing something new. She looked me square in the eye and said I looked beautiful. I told her I didn’t need to hear that, but on how to calm my nerves down that were eating me up inside. She told me that it was super easy just walking up the stage and getting my diploma, and that she was going to be there the whole time. Her advice she was giving me didn’t help me at all, until she notice I didn’t have any makeup on. I was so done, and stated that that’s how nervous I was, I would have forgotten to do my makeup if it wasn’t for her. I quickly went back to my room and did my makeup before it was too late. I didn’t eat anything because knew that it wouldn’t stay in my

I didn’t get the chance to attend my graduation, but I was nonetheless overjoyed about this accomplishment. My graduation from college was a major success to me because both my parents did not get the chance to finish high school and I wanted to make them proud. I wanted them to see that I would not get distracted, I wanted them to see that regardless of our financial situation, I am able to remain focus and follow through with my promise to them, which was to graduate college. This accomplishment was important to me because I was the first in my family to attend and graduate college. Majority of the individuals in my family dropped out of high school or got pregnant at an early age. I made a vow to myself that my story will not be played out like that, and I made sure it didn’t. at the beginning of college, I was facing financial challenge. Being that I recently moved to the united states, I was not getting full financial aid, so my mom had to work two or more jobs and sometimes barrowed money to pay for my tuition. My mother was very supportive and did whatever needed to be done to make sure I completed college, so to her I attribute my success. Thanks to a very supportive mother I currently have an undergrad degree and currently pursuing a graduate…

A dilemma that I faced, and still am facing is simply the decision about what I want to do with my life after my high school career. In my freshman year of high school my goal was simply to get through the year in one piece. I was forced to conform to my new environment and all the strict rules that came along with it. Along with that it was the sudden transition from being the "big dogs" as eighth graders at my middle school to being "fresh-meat" in my first year high school. With so much attention placed on me as a freshman like on the varsity basketball team, where I was constantly forced to prove my worth to the coach and the players, to stepping out of my comfort zone and performing in a mandatory play for the rest of the the school as…

Track and field has been the highlight of my high school life. The social aspect, the large assortment of events from which to choose, and the people I met are things I will always treasure. I especially loved the fact that there was always a place for everyone. If you weren’t too quick, then discus was your event. If you could build up quick bursts of speed, long and triple jumps suited you. Track was the only sport where such a large variety of people could congregate and enjoy what they were best at. This variety is what attracted me to the sport in the first place. While I have had three different coaches in the years I played this sport, one stood out apart from all the rest: Dr. Christopher Forno. He played an extremely significant role in shaping me to become the person that I am today.…

I graduated. Where did the time go? From having set nap times and recess to walking across the stage with a smile from ear to ear and a diploma to go with it, I could not be any more grateful. I am truly thankful that I made it this far, it is a blessing. I have been through a great deal personally and academically and I can only thank God for what He has done in my life. As a small child, I was hard to handle as a child and I made things difficult for my teachers. There would be times that I would pay attention and receive the information while in school, and other times I was trying to be the center of attention in class, it never dawned on me that it would affect me and my schoolwork. Through my grade school years, I…

As a current senior in high school, the time of graduation can be stressful and I am finally figuring out what I want to do with my life. The only reason I was able to do this was because of the great education I have gotten at CAL. I have learned more than just what textbooks and charts can show. I learned about life lessons and without them I do not know if I would be able to say I am academically and emotionally ready for college.…

"I doubt she will ever graduate high school" was a sentence expressed to my family members, it was regarding me. These discouraging words were spoken out of the mouth of my own father. While eavesdropping I overheard this statement when I was in my freshman year, and I believed him. The thought of not graduating replayed in my head throughout the majority of my high school career. For an extensive period of time, that statement prevented me from reaching my full potential. Suddenly I realized that I had a choice, I could either drop out as everyone else in my family did, or I could graduate and attend college. In addition to being the first student in my family to graduate high school and further my education in college, I am doing that one…

Being a high school graduate after facing many difficulties is one of my biggest accomplishments to date. The day I graduated, I felt like a plane in the sky and just wanted to soar higher and higher. At the time, this called for a vacation to celebrate my hard work. As a result, I decided to take myself and my one-year-old daughter to San Diego, California. Being that I was not familiar with the place and did not know anyone, I decided to…

I cannot believe I have made it this far this quickly. It feels like just yesterday when I was accepting my diploma from Mr. Salvatore, my middle school principal and crying while hugging friends who I knew would be attending a different high school than I. Then, on that hot September day, walking through what I thought must have been the biggest school in the state of New Jersey, I got lost, made new friends, and college was but a dwarfed blip on my radar, far, far away from the center of my mind. Subsequently, in tenth grade, Union High School became smaller and my excitement for graduation was planted by the upperclassmen’s conversations about the upcoming prom and graduation. “I’ll get there,” I thought. Junior year came and the small blip on…
