Francis Junod was a proper lady that liked to go to the racetrack and to nice restaurants. She also wanted to go to the restaurants in New York City that her husband would go to, but she didn’t get to go to those much. Junod says that food is love and that he liked her food, but only if she followed the mash potato rule. That rule was that she had to use real potatoes, she could not use instant potatoes at all. Francis Junod said that are real potatoes, but Tom Junod argued that they were not. Cooking was just something she had to do to feed him and he could tell how much she hated it as could his dad. So to keep their marriage together his dad no longer made his wife cook and he would take her to the Roosevelt Raceway and they would eat at the Cloud Casino. Junod then had to fend for himself and had to start making his own dinners. He was in high school at this time and got stoned and finally admitted the truth that his mother wasn’t a great cook and that a lot of what she did cook was Banquet
