Personal Narrative: My Mission Trip To Malawi

.) I became a Christian the last time I went to the Centrifuge the summer before my freshmen year of high school. Before this time i had thought that i was christian but during that week at camp I realized that I had been living the motions and that spiritually I was lukewarm. While I was sitting in the auditorium on the Carson-Newman campus I felt the conviction of the Holy Spirt calling me to come to salvation. During the invitation, after a sermon on not ging through the motions, I started to weep and I made my way over to Kevin. I could barely get my words together and speak them, but Kevin understood and right then and there I recieved God's gift of salvation. After camp was over, I struggled with doing a quiet time until I heard about …show more content…
I went on the mission trip to New York City and that trip felt like training for a much bigger trip that i knew would be taking place this coming spring break to Malawi. Malawi has a big spot in m heart and i have felt like i was supposed to go on this mission trip for a long time. I have been prayigng about thsi mission trip since the first time that our youth group sent a mission team over there. Last year I felt a calling to go to New York and this year i have the same feeling of a calling to go to Malawi.
8.) I am most excited to share the gospel with the lost people in Malawi. I am also looking forward to encouraging the believers that are already in Malawi trying to reach the lost in a lonely part of the world. If we can reach one person and turn them to Christ then the mission trip will be cnsidered a success in my book.
9.) In the past year I have been on the NYC mission trip team, i have been a part of service projects at my school through NHS and through my own choice. I have been a part of leading several NHS service projects to Alexanf=der Youth Network, Second Harvest Food BAnk, and other loations. I have had various experiences in the last two years, but the one I feel is the most significant is the time I spent volunteering for the Detroit Mission Trip. This opportunity presented itself in June of 2014 through my church, Metro South Church. I spent one week, Monday through Friday, each day-all day, commuting from my home in Brownstown to the inner city of Detroit. Each day of this mission trip consisted of various volunteer jobs. I was one of approximately 100 people that engaged in the process of making life better for others.…

When I went on a mission trip in Florida three years ago we helped at a local soup kitchen. It was amazing to see just how many people showed up. Most of these people didn’t even come alone, they had children, brothers, sisters, even good friends who were just stuck and needed help. I sat and talked with some of the people, they told…

I was only 14 when I went on my mission trip, but experiencing that such a young age has shaped me for who I am. I was involved in three mission trips, which all occurred in the States, but in all three-mission trips I helped people who I believe needed it most. I was proud of what I did and I think it was something that not a lot of people did at my age. One of my biggest motivators were the people I was helping. After going on my first trip, I had bonded with others and had made me realize what the real world is like outside a small town in Iowa.…

After the service was over, we returned home and everyone went to bed. As I laid there, I remember crying out in shame and disgust for what I had done. I remember thinking how could I tell her that it was all a hoax and that I really didn’t believe in God. But, unbeknownst to me, my aunt and uncle had heard me crying. My aunt had explained to my uncle that I was crying because I had been saved and that I finally accepted Jesus into my heart.…

I believe that over my four years of high school and throughout my schooling career I have demonstrated great character and morals. It’s not what someone is underneath, but what someone does that defines them and in my opinion the best way to to demonstrate character and morals is with service. I have displayed my service in so many ways and one example is my mission trip to Haiti. I traveled there planning to help children and make an impact their lives. After a week of serving and building relationships, I realized that it had changed me more than I changed it.…

Service is something that is near and dear to my heart, and this trip was no exception. My FYS group and I went to a local non for profit Atlas (Attaining Truth, Love, And Self-control) to do projects they needed done. This organization works with troubled people who need a mentor or a shoulder to lean on. Because they are a non for profit and are very busy, the people on pay roll didn’t have the time to do yard work or extra jobs around the building.…

I started on the trip afraid, yet ready to impact a country as best I could. However, I see now that the Lord had a completely different approach than I, because He knew my eyes had not seen such beauty and such diversity as I as while in Guatemala. From seeing the majesty of the Lord through the natural landscapes, or feeling the mercy of the Lord through seeing the people and the simple lifestyle in which they lived, I was able to cure a need I had inside of my own heart. The Lord placed a need for more inside of me and he does so in all of his children.…

    1. Going into missions week I was filled with excitement. Going to the Dominican Republic is something I’ve looked forward to since my first year at Hickory Grove. Every year you hear how the DR changed the students who went. There is a famous saying among the people who have gone on the Dominican trip, “I went with intentions of changing/helping the people yet the people seemed to change/help me,” and that was something I was looking forward to experiencing.…

That is why I have decided that I needed to do something to help them out, as well as to provide them with a couple days of relief; a day where they don't have to worry about providing for their families, a day where they can relax and have a smile on their face and let someone else do all the worrying for them, a day they can actually sit down and enjoy time together with one another. Now that I am older, I understand that there will always be struggles in life, struggles that some people don't want to face; I also understand how difficult life can be, especially if you have a family with and the provider has a low paying job or not having any source of income to provide your family with. Giving to those not as fortunate, will make me feel like I am starting something that can make a change in this world, something that will motivate others to do the same and help those who are in need and make this world a better place. This mission trip will consist of providing a nice meal and fun activities to all of those low income families, especially to those families that have young kids. I love to cook and help others!…

I have experienced much grace through the trouble and poverty I have witnessed through my mission trips to Guatemala. I went to Guatemala June 9-16, 2014, and August 4-11, 2015 (and I plan on going back August 2016). Seeing the conditions these people live in daily, has helped me take to heart the kind of help they are in need of. Many of these people have no home, no family or no money to provide for their family, yet they are still thankful. Most of the time little boys and girls won’t have any shoes on their feet or their clothes will be far too small.…

I asked myself the question “how can we make a long-term effect on a short-term mission trip?” This idea centered around the lessons we were teaching the children throughout the day. I noticed that the children we well informed about God and how to become a Christian. Pastor Vernon gives them lessons every week, probably the same lessons we were giving them. The children were hungry for more than a preschool version of the bible.…

During my childhood and lower teens, I was very involved in church. I would go to every event or meeting put on by our church. Watching certain senior youth members, I didn’t understand why they would just come to the fun events.
