My Migration To The US

My family emigrated from East Africa(mainly Eritrea) and settled in the US. Our migration, facilitated by political contexts at home, circumstances of education, and available support, is translated into life experiences that are infused with emotions and hardships. As an individual who has experienced this long term migration, I have a unique perspective that I would like to contribute to life at Duke.
My parents since as long as I could remember have taught me that, “If you work hard, you will succeed”, at first this was not so obvious to me, but as I grew I came to realize this was true.
