My Midterm Reflective Reflection

Decent Essays
Just like my reflection journal, almost all of the workshops has taught me something to better my writing. One of the workshops that I will never forget is eliminating the “To Be words.” When Dr. Popham first told us about this life changing workshop, I honestly thought that she was exaggerating. However, when I left class that day I was wrong. I was amazed how eliminating words such as “is,” “was,” “be,” and “are” can truly transform my essay to a stronger and clearer writing. When Dr. Popham was explaining the reasons why we should take these words out I totally agree. When we did the exercise it truly showed how just taking off the word gives more power to the idea of the sentence. Ever since the workshop, in every essay I write both for …show more content…
These letters were able to pin point my mistakes and success during my quest. In my midterm portfolio letter to my partner, I was able to assess my work and see which ones I need to revise before I turn in my final portfolio. It was also a good thing that my partner was able to write me a letter to see what I need to work on. Also, hearing another person’s view about my work helps me to better my writing. Just assessing my own work is not enough. I am doing all these things throughout my journey and I am just that person who needs assurance that I am doing it right. So hearing from my partner and knowing what I need to work on really helps me improve my work as a writer. To become a better writer, I must learn from my mistakes and without anyone telling me what I did wrong, I would never learn from them. Both of these letters speak on behalf of me and my quest to improve as a …show more content…
If I had to make a choice to identify one lesson that has changed me most, it would be learning that there is no such thing as a perfect paper. There is always room for revision. The class truly highlights this component. It allowed me to learn from my mistakes. Knowing that I always have the chance to grow as a writer is one thing that helped me better myself. This took away the pressure of making sure my paper would receive a good grade. I was able to focus more on writing what I truly feel than making sure my grammar is in every sentence I write. Because of this opportunity, I felt the freedom to just write away and not worry about technical writing skills till I truly had my point shinning throughout my paper. Also, being able to fix the mistakes I made always reminded me to not repeat it again. I am the kind of person who learns best when my flaws are pointed out. Not knowing what I did wrong prevents me from growing and maturing as a

How I plan to teach Culturally and Linguistically Diverse students, is to use what I have learned in EDU 305 as a guideline to apply what has been taught in class and use it for my students in the future. Ideally, I would like to teach at high school level in South Korea. I also find that helping CLD students who are learning English as their second language also fits for what I plan for the future. With high schoolers, some of the students that just came to America would not understand English well. When students starts to learn English around the ages of 15-18 years old, it can be frustrating and difficult for them.…

Over the course of English 102, I have developed a new set of skills and learned to become a better writer. When I first came into English 102 I struggled with many different concepts of writing. During the semester in English 102, my writing became stronger because I learned how to incorporate evidence into my argument, do more thorough research, have smoother transitions, and have more organization throughout my essay. I learned how to peer review better and to take what others say and incorporate it into my essay. In the beginning, before English 102, I struggled with good organization and flow to an essay, sandwich evidence into paragraphs, and having strong arguments in persuasive essays.…

Over the course of the semester, I have learned all of the skills necessary to excel in school and college. Some of the most important things I have learned were how to manage time and how to be an active reader. Before learning how to manage my time, I would easily get distracted and procrastinate but now I have learned how to get everything done in a timely manner. Also, before the course I would struggle to comprehend what my textbook said but thanks to the course, I now spend the time to reevaluate what I am reading to fully understand the material. Other helpful lessons I have learned from this class were how to take good, helpful notes and what kind of learner I am.…

This semester I have learned much about my own writing style and how it can be perfected. There’s many new techniques and little tweaks that have and will help me with my writing. My papers from the beginning of the year will prove that I have fixed many major and minor problems in my assignments and they will stick with me for as long as I am able to write. I have learned many things about my writing style that I had not noticed before this class. For instance, I realized how much I used the word “you” or “we” in my writing without even thinking about it.…

One of the most important lessons was that I needed to stay on top of my work otherwise it would take a while to catch up. In college, classes and papers will fly by faster than in this class, so I feel lucky to have the opportunity to feel the college paper writing experience. I also this this class taught me to work hard and never give anything less than 100 percent. I feel this way because with every paper I had to prove my skills and writing techniques in order to get a good grade. Taking this class has helped me improve my skills and techniques as a writer, and I look forward to the challenges that lie ahead in Composition…

With every new class I have ever taken, came new experiences, new knowledge, and self improvement. Which have all made me into a better student and molded me as a person. Not all classes do this to every student it consist of the student’s willingness to learn, and the teacher’s interest in their students learning. In English 1302, I have improved my analyzing skills, my communication skills, and I am working on correct grammar. One of my favorite assignments from this semester that really helped me refresh and improve my analyzing skills was the song/poem essay.…

I would probably change my encouraging methods and be more assertive about getting professional assistance, such as talking to the experts about what was going through their minds. Another change would be to put more energy towards my assignments and ask for help from my tutors rather than holding it all inside. Model used for my second piece of reflection is Schon’s model of reflection (Smith, 2005). This has helped me to view life differently, as we all think nothing is going to happen to us even at the worst of times.…

Learning different modes of writing and putting them into practice will allow me to be able to approach different subjects with an appropriate style. Although I had learned to use only academically credible sources before, I had become too lax and this class put me back on the right track of being aware. I have only done papers in APA format for the past two years, so this class was a nice refresher on MLA format. I think it’s important to be fluent in both; while in college you never know if different teachers will require a different format than others. Beyond improving my writing ability, this class achieved its critical thinking development goal as well.…

In the beginning of the semester I was very unsure on how I would appeal in writing, I’ve always been very cynical of my writing because I never thought it was good enough for a college standard. Insanely nervous about entering with writing, it was not as terrifying as I sought it to be. The writing was very straight forward- choose a topic and to stay relative to that topic throughout the semester. Since the topic I chose was very dear to me and I actually did have passionate it about, it made it much easier for me to form bond around it. Like stated before, I took on challenges to test myself to even more extents by using styles that I weren’t so confident on using before.…
