For as long as I can remember, I have been an environmental junkie. Maybe I’ve read too many popular young adult novels that feature futuristic dystopian societies where civilization is forced to survive in an environmentally decimated world or listened to too many debates on global warming. Regardless of the cause being real or imagined, we cannot deny that the polar ice caps are melting, weather patterns are shifting, trash is mounting and the earth’s natural resources are being consumed at an alarming rate. I’ve been known to scream at a person for attempting to throw away a soda can then recite recycling facts to them in order to shame them into recycling. I am extremely passionate about the environment; therefore, one of my lifetime goals is to travel to environmentally unhealthy countries and assist them by all means possible. There are many current and future extracurricular activities that I plan to take advantage of in order to achieve my goal of serving countries that lack environmental stability. …show more content…
This is one of the things that I am involved in that will prepare me to reach my goal. As the Environmental Chair, I have the opportunity to positively change my school by making it more eco friendly and by promoting recycling. While this is on a much smaller scale compared to assisting an entire country, it will still give me experience in helping the environment. I hope that my experiences in Student Council will help me in my mission to complete my goal of improving the environment on a larger scale. In addition, as a member of the Mayor’s Youth Council for my city, I hope to learn more about water conservation and management because it is a very important topic because our area has been under drought conditions for many

Tonight, we honour one of our nation’s youngest, yet extremely accomplished environmental activists. Severn Cullis-Suzuki has shown an interest in the environment and its preservation from an early age on, as she explored the nature surrounding Vancouver together with her father, famous environmentalist David Suzuki. She founded the Environmental Children’s organization at age 9, still in Elementary School. By age 12, she had become so invested in environmental activism that she was invited to speak before the members of the 1992 Rio Earth Summit, reminding them that the issues they were addressing had implications for every living being on the planet. She emphasized one of her firm believes, that of sustainable development, crafting long-term…

Title goes here Waste has, undoubtedly, a very big impact on the current Global Warming phenomenon. Many political figures and environmental activists have called for a change in our habits as consumers to reduce the amount of waste that we produce. Or does this task belong to the large corporations and politicians that really have the power to make a difference? In the essays “Forget Shorter Showers” by Derrick Jensen and “Waste Not, Want Not” by Bill Mckibbens, both authors address the impact of waste reduction as part of the solution to the problem.…

Imagine a barren wasteland, incapable of supporting the growth of any form of life and overpopulated with more people than it could sustain: this is the future of the earth. But, this is not just another scene from a sci-fi film of a population that has expedited their vital resources, but the reality for the “over 7 billion people” who populate the home we call earth (Hardaway 4). A considerable amount of blame is placed on global warming which is an “increase in the temperature of the lower atmosphere“; however, global warming has not garnered enough acceptance from some political officials and skeptics due to the term’s ambiguity (“global warming”). Global warming is often confused with climate change and although these terms sound alike…

Alejandro Vieyra Mr. Moody English 4 5 December 2016 Climate Change Must Stop Climate change is the changing of weather patterns in regions all around the world. The primary cause of climate change is the appreciable amount of fossil fuel emissions that humans are sending into the atmosphere. These emissions consist of carbon dioxide that ultimately retain more heat in our atmosphere than needed, thus elevating the temperature everywhere around the globe and damaging ecosystems greatly. Many people, including politicians and scientists, believe that climate change is simply a hoax. Although some prefer to believe that climate change is fake and we have nothing to worry about, there are concrete facts that prove these individuals wrong.…

The Earth is currently facing detrimental environmental issues. These issues have been evident for decades; however, many people have continuously denied them to be problematic or even their existence entirely. While these critics have managed to get away with the rejection of these problems for many years, it is no longer deniable that the issue of environmental degradation is very real and in need of immediate action. Much of the population has come to understand this, and have executed a variety of modest attempts to increase environmental sustainability. However, these efforts have demonstrated to be of minimal effect in solving the large-scale issues directly causing the degradation.…

Individual awareness concerning the current condition of the environment has risen to the attention of psychologists in recent years, their curiosity concerning what personality traits entice a person’s awareness, concern, and intentions to act on environmental needs. An individual’s self-awareness, or self-construal, towards the environmental decay brought on heavily due to destructive human behaviors, could stem from how the individual views themselves and their actions in relation to others and the environment (Hinds & Sparks, 2008). The level to which an individual holds concern for the environment varies—one individual may view recycling and water management as an extreme importance to conserving and protecting the environment, while another…

While surveying the 14 random people, I noticed that most of them had similar responses to each question. On the scale of 1-10, most of them answered between 4 and 6 about caring for the environment. They knew it was an important topic, but most of them hardly did anything to solve any environmental issues. Only 5 people out of the 14 said they recycled their materials while the others just threw everything away. Their response to recycling was that they did not “have time to sort out their trash” or did not want to “bother with it.”…
