While I come from an agriculturally-focused family, my interests as a young boy were divided between aviation and computers. At the age of 13, I began to focus more on my digital hobbies after a neighbor offered to assist me in learning the art of programming. During the next few years, he mentored me in software development using primarily C# with the .NET Framework. In that time, I created a collection of small personal applications and games as I experimented with code and concepts. At age 17, I became interested in interacting with the physical world through the digital one with the use of microcontrollers. With the Internet and a copious amount of trial-and-error, I taught myself a functional understanding of electrical engineering. I completed several smaller projects, such as controllers for lights, motors, and servos, to gain experience for attempting more complex projects, like metal detectors and electro-magnetic propulsion systems. My additional skills have allowed me to assist high-school students with Arduino-powered science fair projects, which included a tracking solar panel and an autonomous collision-avoiding robot.

My employment history has consisted chiefly of helping with the hydroponic systems on the family farm, Portwood Gardens. More recently, however, I have been working with Ivy Tools, an online distributor of various buildings diagnostic

My junior year in high school, I became a student mentor in our campus’s peer counseling program. This was an incredibly rewarding experience as I had the opportunity to help freshman students assimilate into our high school dynamic. As a peer mentor, I assisted students with personal problems and mediated issues with teachers in order to maximize their learning experience. I also acted as a role model for my mentees by talking frequently about AP and Honors courses and how to be successful in such programs. I put effort into learning about each individual's interests and goals so that I could expose them to clubs and academic courses that they may appreciate such as the Biomedical Academy or our school’s robotics team.…

My favorite job by far has been my internship as a career mentor in the Office of Career Development at my school. As a career mentor, my primary duties are to help students with resume/cover letters, job/internship search and just general life goals questions. This internship has made realize why I love working with students. It’s such a great feeling when a student comes and they may be confused about their major or how to make a resume for a job; but by the end of the your time with them, you just see this light bulb go off in their head and they have this look of “I understand”. Even though it may be a very small interaction, I feel like I have made a small difference in their lives and I have helped them somehow.…

There are a few different reasons I feel I am qualified to fulfill a CA position; I have experience both in being mentored as well as mentoring. I have worked as a functional member of a team environment in my highschool, social, and work space environments. I have faced struggles that give me a calm head in hard times and that is one of my major qualifications when becoming a CA. Throughout my middle school years I was in a program with Colby College where a student attending there would come and talk with me, or play games, or whatever they saw as necessary. I was an extremely shy child who showed little to no interest in socializing with my peers; giving me a mentor for three years was how they looked to solve this problem.…

From a young age I have been fascinated by ideas of studying business. As amusing as it may sound, my interest in business first emerged as a result of watching the BBC television show The Apprentice. The Apprentice was my first exposure to ideas of business practice and process and was responsible for awakening my interest in the area, although I know now that The Apprentice is far from a realistic view of business process. This encouraged my desire to further understand the internal workings of a business, which led ultimately to a goal of furthering and developing my knowledge in all aspects of business. Since starting A Level business, i have come to learn that the complexities of the business industry are in constant development and change,…
