My Mentor Experience

Improved Essays
While working as a tutor at Kumon, I had the opportunity to interact with students from a wide array of educational backgrounds. Working with children not only broadened my ability to teach and communicate with others, but also helped me relate and empathize with them as their mentor. Working as a tutor helped develop my self-confidence, as I felt that I was making a difference in the academic lives of the students that I interacted with. In the same way that I view my lab mentor, Patricia G. Cipriani, as a figure of guidance, the students that I worked with viewed me as a figure of support whenever they needed help.
Being the tutor, rather than the student, helped me develop perspectives on the role a mentor, or teacher, plays in a student's career. As a mentor, I became a role model for the students, helping them to strive for their best. From being able to directly relate to the problems that they were having, I was not only able to empathize with them throughout their experience at Kumon, but I was also able to provide them insights from my past experiences.

Working with students with learning disabilities gave me perspectives on how much dedication and effort they put into their work, as they tried to solve each question before asking for help. Teaching these students was one of the most awarding experiences I had while being a tutor at Kumon. Being able to support them throughout their lesson plans and seeing them learn made me realize my own passion for teaching and being a mentor for

My junior year in high school, I became a student mentor in our campus’s peer counseling program. This was an incredibly rewarding experience as I had the opportunity to help freshman students assimilate into our high school dynamic. As a peer mentor, I assisted students with personal problems and mediated issues with teachers in order to maximize their learning experience. I also acted as a role model for my mentees by talking frequently about AP and Honors courses and how to be successful in such programs. I put effort into learning about each individual's interests and goals so that I could expose them to clubs and academic courses that they may appreciate such as the Biomedical Academy or our school’s robotics team.…

My 25 years of medical experience are rooted in my professional goal to be a visual healing artist. Rehearsing Your Personal Case Mentor ship As one of the options I brainstormed to address the delinquent behavior of my juvenile, I've come to believe that what most young people in the juvenile justice system needs is not services or professional assistance. Some do. Some are in the justice system because they cant stop their behavior because they have mental health problems, substance abuse problems and they need professional help to get past those barriers. But many are often suffering from severe cases of adolescence, and they need to be helped with that disorder. Learning responsibility, learning how to associate with others, learning how to make decisions, learning that there are risks in life and that there is no need…
