I went to Riverdale Elementary School, a dry dull red brick school. When I was in first grade, the school was offering tutors, sixth graders, to help the students in the lower grades. The sixth graders specifically helped with reading, and they were trying to pace the students to be proficient or even to an advance level. My mother, dark tanned skin, long black silky hair immediately signed me up. “You need all the help you can get,” she said seriously. I felt that my mom had expectations and I needed to do well in school. After she signed me up, as you can imagine I was not looking forward to the tutoring sessions.
I wanted to go home and watch Sailor Moon save the day! I did not want to spend every boring afternoon with a sixth grader who probably does not even want to be there as well. However I was in no position to say that I did not want to go to the session. The session was in a typical classroom, chalkboard, desk, and green carpet however this classroom did not have any windows, I’m guess this would eliminate any distractions.

I just tied to hold my emotions in. I continued reading I tried my very best to pronounce every word correctly I did not want Jocelyn and Nancy to laugh at me. Lucky I did not stumble on any words, which was a relief! After the tutoring session I quickly ran back home and cried in my room. Of course this was my worst memory from reading. However after this experience this pushed me to try harder and I even read more than I did before. Ironically Jocelyn helped me to become a better reader.
