I was shaking, and crying. I barely opened the truck door in time to see what I had eaten for lunch hit the pavement below me. Little did I know my life was about to change greatly. After two months in the hospital my dad finally came back home. My dad is a miracle. He was in intensive care for a week. I still remember running out of the room whenever my dad’s brother and another person would grab the top and bottom of the blanket he lay on, to move him. Seeing the strongest person I knew screaming in pain was something that frightened me very much. He was told he would never walk again. Watching my dad’s determination to take those steps showed me to never stop trying. He was in a wheelchair; I could tell at my young age that my dad was somewhat embarrassed to be looked at as someone who was incapable of doing everyday tasks. Helping him with whatever it was he needed taught me responsibility and I felt a sense of purpose, knowing my dad was depending on me to help him. Then he eventually started to use crutches and now he walks normally. Remembering his strength and will to fight helps me every day. This experience is a part of my life that has made me who I
