Personal Narrative Essay: The Center Of My Childhood

Improved Essays
There are many ways that people get reminded of their childhood memories. I get to visit the largest memory from my childhood almost every single day, considering that it is the barn that I grew up visiting and working at. It holds plenty of my childhood memories and holds many stories; happy, sad and everything in between. To me this place is the epitome of comfort, safety and privacy and is always a solid, never changing, good place to go when you need to be alone and thinking about issues and events. Though it may be difficult to understand the way that this place affects my life, but in a way this place is the center of my universe and where it began. It looks sort of like one of the old barns that you see in ancient paintings, …show more content…
Mostly today it is made up of old boards, and ancient logs that are falling off the building in places, covered in a pealing coat of old red paint, while the bottom story is made of old weather worn stones that are far older than me or anyone I know. The milkhouse which used to be where the milk was stored before all of the dairy cows were sold, is made of an old worn cement that has been slowly falling off for as long as I can remember. The interior is a little less pristine than the outside of the barn, with so much mold growing, and water coming down from the ceiling in an almost constant drip. The ancient boards that held the place up for more than 50 years gently bend under the weight of the hay that is stored upstairs in the winter. On the upper story there is a layer of hay and straw almost a foot thick that covers the entire floor of the upper. In my entire life I have never actually seen the floor of the barn upstairs, and it is likely that no one has ever come to clean it. …show more content…
People are never constant and the people who you call good friends now may only be distant memories in a very breif period of time. Even you are not constant, for example the way you look now is not the way that you will look in ten years, and the way you look in ten years is not what you will look like in twenty or even thirty, and even though I may not like to admit it, my opinions are very differently from what my opinions were even last year. In a way not even family is constant. There are many things that can tear even your closest family members away from you, whether it is an accident or just a very costly argument family and people are ever changing. As life keeps on flowing by through the years I hold that this place has pretty much not become any different, even though the people and objects may be. In a way this is one of the center points in my universe because it has never gotten any different, and is always a place to look when everything starts to fall apart, and

I was ten years ago and I can still vividly remember sitting on an old, wooden rocking chair while the words of The Very Hungry Caterpillar trembled off my lips to a room full of second graders. I can recall the eagerness and excitement that filled their little faces as I flipped from page to page. There was an abundance of curiosity and desire to learn in that classroom that made me happy that I decided on skipping recess to read to the younger students. There was a fire that lit in my ten-year-old body that day. That was the day where I finally had an answer to all the “What do you want to be when you grow up?”…
