My Memoir Of Chasity

Chasity, I really enjoyed your memoir. I was able to figure out exactly why the events in the piece have made you into who you are today, making the subject matter perfect for your memoir. I struggled a little bit with all of the back and forth between you telling us a story and you speaking to the reader directly in present tense. I think the piece would be more effective if you found a way to incorporate everything you are trying to let the reader know without having to tell them directly. For example, instead of saying “Even at 25, my mind can easily slip back into my very first memory” after having just said that the year was 1995, I would say, “The first memory I have of my mom is from when I was five years old sitting in the back

The Breathtaking Brown Girl Dreaming Initially when I began Jacqueline Woodson 's Brown Girl Dreaming I wasn 't convinced her choice of writing style was for me. I didn 't fully grasp how an autobiography could be written in verse and still flow like a narrative. However, Woodson laid to rest any concerns or doubts I may have had prior to starting this delightful novel. I have never been one to avidly seek out memoirs; I get bored with them after only just beginning them.…

The Crevasse “Adversity is the source of our deepest growth and greatest blessings; embrace it, dare to seek It,” that was a quote from Aron Ralston, who fell down a crevasse and his arm was wedged under a rock, which inspired the movie “127 Hours.” One day I was going to the creek with my friends, Matthew and Kendal, to hang out. We had this amazing spot that had a bridge that we made and everything. We were bringing further supplies to add on to the spot and make it look more visually appealing. When we arrived at the park we brought all of the supplies down under a bridge.…

There are many stories told in my family. Anyone and everyone told them, some nights it would be my mom and other nights it would be my grandpa. There would always be two stories read; the first one would be from a book called “My Book of Bible Stories”. This book has so many pictures asks questions has descriptive words and is still one of my favorite books. After that story whoever was telling the story would make up a silly story usually about a blue or green man with a giraffe that went traveling and exploring (I have no clue why).…

So it started out as a normal school day and as we were coming back from lunch we all went to the restroom and only six of us got taken. As we were using the restroom Andrew Myers, Jahzara Mckinney, Kadance Gravely, Maddox Lyons, Hayden Elliott, Kaylie Hawks and myself were pulled into the sewers and through a pipe that somehow took us to a island. We were stranded there by ourselves the island was like a forest in a way it has tall redwood trees high grass like the jungle and a beautiful glossering pond. So as we were there we were all panicking then I just got really quiet. We went to bed and the next morning Hayden and Jahzara were fighting over food we had from killing Andrew we had a lot of food left over from yesterday but both Jahzara and Hayden wanted that same piece.…

Writer and Author, Mary Karr, in her book, “The Liars’ Club”, recounts her life through her turbulent and troubled childhood all the way to finding out her mother has other children the family was unaware of in her young adulthood. Karr uses vivid imagery and vibrant descriptions to summarize a portion of her life into a novel that could be described as if she was right there talking to you. She relates to the reader very well in an easy to comprehend way. I chose to read this memoir because of the summary I read when I was researching which book to read that detailed all of the problems in the author’s life, such as sexual assault, a “Nervous” mother, and a dysfunctional family. Finding myself interested by these issues, I chose to read…
