My mask is suppose to represent me. The problem with representing yourself is that truly you never share the whole you. It is very hard to open up to people especially being in a high school that one you create a reputation it’s hard to change. We did a literal mask in english to show the world how people look at you and compare it to how you look at yourself. The way you view yourself is very important, but I take a different stance and say that the way people look at you is more important. That is not a popular opinion but I have never been fond of those anyway. The way other people view you affects your whole life, you work, your social, and you home life. This is why I found this project to be both interesting and important even if there …show more content…
On the inside there are many things that are not shared with but a few people. I used words like broken, careful, broken, intelligent, anxiety, OCD, hurt, whole, loving, and confident. There are also two fingerprints of mine that symbolize my print on my life and that i affect my inside life the most. I sometimes wonder why we live in a world that has an idea that they can not share everything and not be judged and then I come back to reality that explains how that is just how the world is. There are scratches on the mask showing how people have affected and hurt what I believe to be true about myself. I used words like broken and hurt to show that things I have been through have affected my life in a big way. My parents are divorced and the white in the scratches represent the purity of marriage and now that it is broken it affects me. The white fingerprint represents some of the purity inside of me and the gray one shadows over it, meaning I do not find myself pure as much anymore. The way you portray is so important because it represents self …show more content…
I’ve decided to compare my mask to Crucial Moments. I relate most to the first two stanzas. The first word is so impactful, reality. The reality of the world is that you cannot ever change everyone's mind about you because everyone will have their own opinion. It cannot be changed whether you want it to or not and as a human being you must accept that. The next stanza talks about how we show ourselves best in crucial moments and I truly relate to, Throughout my life I show myself best when put in between a rock and a hard place and that is something I am super proud of. Not only do I relate to this poem but I believe it is very real and

In his 1977 essay, “In Defense of Masks”, Kenneth Gergen introduces the concept of multiple personas and personalities as being ‘masks’. In his psychological and sociological research, Gergen concludes that people do not have a coherent sense of identity and need masks to be happy, healthy, and successful in society. I agree with Gergen because different situations call for different personalities; such as acting professional for a job interview, being lively with friends, or maintaining a perfect image of yourself for other. Most jobs call for a certain degree of professionalism. People put on masks while at work to give off an impression of uniformity.…
