Education is one of my main values, so choosing the right major is critical. I want to study something that interests me and also something I can apply to society to benefit others. Throughout high school, I have excelled in my science courses and enjoyed doing so. They always made me think harder and encouraged me to dive deeper into the information. I really believe I could make a lifestyle out of learning the sciences and one day have a career based upon this information. That is why I have chosen Biological Sciences as my major. The camp was a week long, held at the University at Buffalo for high school students that were interested in learning more about the brain. The week included lessons taught by medical students, a brain dissection, speeches from medical professionals, and simulations at The Jacobs Institute in Buffalo. The camp allowed me to realize how many opportunities the medical field has in store for me and that this information is what I want to focus on as I go to college. I was genuinely enjoying what I was learning at the camp and never wanted the week to end. It was a crucial factor in helping me decide on Biological Sciences as my major of choice. Ever since I was a child I wanted to help people and didn’t realize how, until I stepped foot in my 7th grade science class. The day still replays in my mind like it was yesterday. I was walking into a new school, with new people, and I felt like the last leaf stuck on the tree, waiting to fall in place where I belonged, but oddly enough, this one basic anatomy and physiology class made me feel welcomed.
