My MRI Experience

Improved Essays
Last year, my leg started to ache; at first, I thought I had bruised it. After a few days, I told my father that my leg had been hurting for the last few days. He told me that it was most likely a growing pain and it could last a few days. However, it continued to hurt and it was more painful than an ordinary growing pain.
After a week, my father took me to the doctor. The doctor examined my leg but he did not know what was wrong with my leg. The doctor suggested that I get an x-ray. Right after the appointment, I went to get an x-ray. The doctor received the x-ray results but he still could not determine why my leg was hurting. He then scheduled an appointment for me to get an MRI, for the following week.
On the day of my MRI appointment,

TProfessor Conner: I feel that the only thing patient worries about is getting the care they need to cure their medical condition. Now whether this includes advanced technology or not really would not concern them, yet the still would expect the providers of care to do whatever needs to be done to make them feel better. With this in mind I feel that most patients are not concerned of what the cost of the care would be, unless it would directly effect their pocket book. I could take myself as an example, I am looking to having an MRI done in the near future and my husband is just receiving his insurance benefits. His benefits package has a deductible of $1000.00 and a maximum OOP of $6000.00 for preferred providers of care.…

    1) Does age of a patient play a role in how much of his or her brain causes seizures and what parts of their brain cause seizures? I remember learning that Dr. Ben Carson did a hemispherectomy (one of the hemispheres of the brain or half of the brain is removed) in a little girl (age 4-5) who had seizures and that the girl had no brain impairment later in life. 2) Can a patient who has an MRI scan done on them experience negative side effects due to the MRI equipment or procedure? I know that exposure to too much X-ray radiation can be detrimental to one's health. Since MRI scans produce better images of the brain than CT scans, which use X-ray particles, I was wondering there are patient related reasons when doctors may opt to order a CT…

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns. Retaining water (edema) at your age 53 years old while going through pre-menopause is to get further evaluated by physician. Immediate tests are highly recommended to understand why you are having edema: - liver/kidney function test - cardiac check up - Doppler ultrasound of the blood vessels including lymphatic system - lymphatic studies (MRI, ct-scan) to rule out lymphedema As the swelling is progressing and noticed on your entire leg, throughout the day, I highly recommend to go to ER as immediate evaluation and specific treatment might be needed. Wish fast recovery.…

The next week, I visited the sports medicine doctor at Children’s Mercy Kansas City and they gave me a cast for six weeks.…
