Personal Narrative-Brown Bear

Back when I was a child I often visited the library with my mother. I remember my mother taking me to the library every Sunday for story time. One of the librarians that worked in there would read us books and then we were able to check out a book for the week. When I was younger I also had a library card that I kept in my purse. To this day my favorite book is "Brown bear Brown bear" by Bill Martin. I used to check it out all the time and even now! I bring books to work frequently and "Brown Bear Brown Bear" is one of them. I read it to my kids in hopes that I can share my love of reading with them!
When I was younger I can also remember my mother or father reading stories to me before bed or when I was sick. My mother would always act out the character in the book to make it more interesting, it always made me laugh, but it also kept my interested in the book. I also remember while she was reading the book to me she would ask me questions about it, like what I think was going to happen next and what she thought was going to happen next.
Throughout elementary and middle school I was told to read slowly and carefully to make sure I don 't miss any words and also to make sure I 'm understanding what I am reading. In elementary school I was never a good reader, I would stumble over words and sometimes, when we were reading

I would rather read to myself, or volunteer myself to read. When people read out loud it distracts me and I don 't pay attention. Just like reading writing has never been my cup of tea either, and still this day it isn’t. I still find myself using inventive spelling hoping that the teacher knows what I am trying to say. I also always miss place punctuations, myself and commas don’t get along, I always have a hard time figuring out where they

I would also pretend to write my own stories by scribbling “cursive” on the pages of my old notebooks. In first grade my teacher, Mrs. Stumph, would allow me to read her Junie B. Jones books to the class. Sometimes, she would even let me read my own books aloud instead. Even though I…

Throughout High school and Middle school I always preferred writing to sitting down and reading a book. Elementary school was a time of exploring both reading and writing so at that point in time I did a lot of both. When I was younger I enjoyed reading for the images on the pages and also the ones that were created in my head. My mother, Lisa, and father, Mark, would take turns reading bedtime stories to my sister, Amanda, and me to expose us to new language and literature. Sometimes Amanda and I would read the stories to each other too so that we could learn to read ourselves.…

I have always been known by my family and in school as an avid reader. Early on, my mom, a former elementary school teacher herself, fostered in me a burning desire for reading and a love to get lost in a book. In grade school, I was known to finish my math and other more “boring” work as quickly as possible so that I could get back to whichever story I was reading at the time. As I got older, reading for pleasure took a backseat to homework, a social life, and other hobbies. I believe I will always be a life long reader, just in varying degrees through the different stages of my life.…

When I was old enough, she placed me in reading programs at the library to further my reading skills and to meet some other children before kindergarten. I stayed in these programs until about third grade. I really enjoyed going and got excited to see what the next story we would be reading. It was exciting to me to find a new book and just escape into the world of that book. I remember all throughout elementary school we had “AR Tests” or Accelerated Reading tests over books…

I always enjoyed reading series of books as a teenager, but now I enjoy reading books by the same author one after the other. Some of the books I enjoyed reading in middle and high school are the Twilight saga, Harry Potter series, and Pretty Little Liars series. Now, I enjoy reading books by Nicholas Sparks, John Green, and Gillian Flynn. There are not too many limitations on my ability to read books in a distracting environment as long as the material that is being read…

After finishing one of the books, my sister and I would act out the story, taking on the roles of the characters. As a child, I was not at all picky with my reading choices. I was open to reading any book. As a teenager, I read a lot of historical fiction, which usually included a romance. Looking back on this time, I think that reading on my own was perhaps a form of escaping from the challenges of life.…
