Back when I was a child I often visited the library with my mother. I remember my mother taking me to the library every Sunday for story time. One of the librarians that worked in there would read us books and then we were able to check out a book for the week. When I was younger I also had a library card that I kept in my purse. To this day my favorite book is "Brown bear Brown bear" by Bill Martin. I used to check it out all the time and even now! I bring books to work frequently and "Brown Bear Brown Bear" is one of them. I read it to my kids in hopes that I can share my love of reading with them!
When I was younger I can also remember my mother or father reading stories to me before bed or when I was sick. My mother would always act out the character in the book to make it more interesting, it always made me laugh, but it also kept my interested in the book. I also remember while she was reading the book to me she would ask me questions about it, like what I think was going to happen next and what she thought was going to happen next.
Throughout elementary and middle school I was told to read slowly and carefully to make sure I don 't miss any words and also to make sure I 'm understanding what I am reading. In elementary school I was never a good reader, I would stumble over words and sometimes, when we were reading

I would rather read to myself, or volunteer myself to read. When people read out loud it distracts me and I don 't pay attention. Just like reading writing has never been my cup of tea either, and still this day it isn’t. I still find myself using inventive spelling hoping that the teacher knows what I am trying to say. I also always miss place punctuations, myself and commas don’t get along, I always have a hard time figuring out where they

When I was a child, every night before bed my mother would read to me. She would lay next to me on my little bottom bunk, while the snow fell in the Maine woods outside and the dog slept at my feet and she would read. The stories she read to me were almost always historical fiction, a favorite of both of ours. We read about medieval Europe, ancient Greece, victorian England, the roaring twenties, the world wars, anything before this century really. One day she read me a book called Brighty of the Grand Canyon, the story of a burro that got involved in a wild west adventure.…

Ironically, though I wasn’t immediately taken with reading, I became an avid reader after those first few difficult years. I was a regular at my elementary school’s small library, and I competed in everything book-related that I could. Battle of the books, spelling bees, and English classes were my favorite pastimes in grade school. Other children dreaded completing summer reading and literature studies, but I looked at reading…

Just like learning to walk or ride a bike, learning to read is one of life’s milestones. However, unlike walking and biking, reading skills are not suddenly obtained and then static throughout life. After learning to read initially, an individual’s reading skills, interests, and purposes further develop and change throughout their life. Furthermore, the means by which an individual improves their reading capabilities change over time as well. In the same way, I initially improved my reading ability and changed my interests through the help of my parents, then later my teachers, and finally, in spite of a dark period of little improvement, through my own effort.…
