This was my main reason for enrolling into medical school. The progress of the human kind and civilization is the purpose of almost all of the college programmes. Medicine participates in this process in the most direct way. As far as i can remember i had always had this desire to help people in need; this desire dates back to my school days where i used to participate in every charitable event and help those who were less fortunate. Getting into medical school meant i was aiming in the right direction.
My journey was molded by the death of my father during my first year of medical school. Holding his cold clammy hand in mine as I watched the last sign of life leave his once strong body. He had suffered from chronic hypertension over the as a consequence of which, there was a massive bleed in his frontal lobe that lead to his final episode of status epilepticus. I rushed him to the ER, but they were unable revive him, and I lost the man i owe everything I am today to. Needless to say, the most devastating experience of my life gave me a real point of view of living in an area with limited resources and access to health care.
