My Love For Volleyball Research Paper

Decent Essays
My love for the sport of volleyball started in the summer going into 8th grade when my life took a turn for the worse . Instead of dealing with my problems I decided that avoiding it would be my best option. I found myself throwing all my time into my new sport. My mentality at the time was if I stay longer at this practice, or went to this clinic, I wouldn’t have to face the constant fighting and hostility that waited for me at home. Before I knew it volleyball became my safe haven, teammates became my new family that I yearned for, and needless to say volleyball became my life. When school came back around my excitement grew for volleyball tryouts. I knew it was going to be intense but with all the time I spent on the court that summer I

The hypothesis of the experiment is: If the type of serve is float, then passes to the setter will decrease. The idea of the experiment is to have a better understanding and discover which type of volleyball serve is harder to receive. Shaking with nervousness and butterflies in my stomach, I sat on the bus quietly trying to get in the zone and ready to play volleyball. Although this wasn’t just any ordinary game, this was the championships. My team has gone undefeated the whole season and to lose this game would crush us. As we approach Geneva North Middle School, where our match was held, I started to get even more nervous than before. My heart starts racing with anxiety and I started to get really sweaty, I tried to calm myself down, but it didn’t work.…

It all started ten years ago, my junior year of high school. It was a warm, bright Sunday afternoon and volleyball season was right around the corner, but the first varsity practice of the year was in one day. I spent Sunday hanging out with friends and relaxing my muscles because I wanted to bring my best tomorrow. As the day passed, I decided to hit the hay early.…

In high school, it can seem like the most important thing in life. I, fortunately, was involved in many other activities to fill up my time. I could not play volleyball my sophomore or junior year. This really upset me because I love the sport. While sitting on the side lines, I had a decision to make: sit here bitterly and wish I could be playing, feeling sorry for myself, or cheer my team on and try to be a positive impact on them.…

I remember being so excited the summer before freshman year because I just knew I would make varsity and would be able to cheer with Ali again. I was prepared well. I already knew all of the cheers and the dance I would be expected to perform at tryouts. Soon after tryouts, I got the news that I only made junior varsity.…

Never in a million years would I have dreamed of making varsity as a freshman, especially for a team that had just won back-to-back state championships. Throughout middle school, I had to overcome adversity associated with being a “science nerd.” When people started to discover my academic aptitude, I was labeled a “nerd” who couldn’t be athletic. I wasn’t about to let this stereotype define me, so I strove to invalidate it. Since I joined volleyball two years after most of my peers, I was put on the “B-team” throughout junior high.…

My freshman year of high school I went out for softball. I had loved softball when I was younger and had always been the star of the team. I wasn’t expecting to come in and be a hot shot, but I also wasn’t expecting to be the bottom man of the totem pole. We had a large team and the coaches knew that to get everyone playing time they would need to have some of us suit up for the first game and save others for a different game that would be easier. I was thrilled when coach said my name in the list of those suiting up for the first game regardless it was for the junior varsity team.…

This sport changed me and made me who I am today. Growing up, I use to enjoy going to practice everyday but as soon as i reached high school it all changed. I dreaded going to practice and I use to be so nervous before a game that I just wanted to go home, quit and never play again. As a year went by, the emptiness inside just kept growing and I never felt happy but I felt as if I had to play, as if I was obligated to play by my coaches, my teammates, and also by my family. So, as much as I hated it I kept playing, but the fire I use to have playing the sport just simply burned out…

At some point in every person's life, they will have a special experience that will stick with them forever. One of my most memorable moments happened recently at a home volleyball game against Traverse City West. Approaching freshman volleyball season, the upperclassman spoke highly of the importance of overpowering TC West. As a ninth grader, I had the mindset that I would be playing for the freshmen team. I didn't think it really mattered what the outcome of the game would be, since we were only ninth graders.…

It has become such a part of my life that I sometimes wonder if I could ever live without it, but at one point in my life I tried to hide my love for it. Volleyball isn’t considered one of the most “masculine” of sports where I live. Volleyball in the Rocky Mountains is strictly considered a girls sport, and you very seldom hear of an all guys team. I was always questioned by my friends “Isn’t that a girls’ sport?”, or, “why do you play a girls’ sport?” I never thought of volleyball as a girls’ sport before that, it was as much of a guys’ sport to me as every other sport, but these questions caused me to hide my love for volleyball in order to avoid being ridiculed by my…

Since I was a toddler, my mom had signed me up for several sports and I had always loved the physicality and mental fortitude involved when competing.
