It’s hard to find two people who come from the exact same background. In school, when I work with my classmates, we all have different ideas about how things should be solved because we all view the world differently. Being a low income, Caucasian, Jewish student is very unique in Hawai’i. Sometimes my views can be radically different from the people around me because we have such different backgrounds, but this has helped me to grow. Growing up in Hawai’i has taught me to take in and value diverse ideas. It has taught me to find similarities in contrasting views and use that as the basis for one unified solution. When I come up with my own ideas, I draw inspiration from as many different sources as I can because in Hawai’i I’ve always had to. Being surrounded by people that came from different backgrounds and that view the world differently has helped to expand the way I think about many things. When met with a problem I’m able to look at it from a much broader perspective than just my own. When I leave Hawai’i next summer I look forward to expanding my views even further by meeting people from all walks of life from around the
