Career goals represent objectives, benchmarks, and milestones in ones career. It is important to set up career goals to help keep from veering off track. To set an achievable goal, you have to know your strength and weaknesses. People most likely have certain areas of life, such as personality and determination, where they can better excel professions than others, whereas people who lack personality wouldn’t excel. Long-term goal
Long-term goals are best achieved when they are broken down into shorter goals. With that being said, my long-term goal is to become a state farm agent. To be a successful agent, one needs to be energized by challenge and willing to accept risk, driven to help others and want to make a difference, and last but not least, committed to the business. There is a selection process, which includes seven steps. The seven steps are questionnaire, assessment, candidate review, career understanding, business proposal presentation, posting and site interview, and internship. The questionnaire includes a background check, current situation, financial situation, recruiting experience, work preferences, goals and motivations, familiarity with the career, and business leadership aptitude. This is one of the most important steps because one must achieve acceptable results in order to move to the next step in the agency career track process. After step number six, which is posting and site interview, if you’re selected you will enter the agent internship program, which could last up to 17 weeks and includes the following: state farm product training non-product training, such as business management and team leadership, and field development involving hands-on experience with a state farm agent. During this time, compensation will include a base hourly rate and milestone payments. My first short-term objective is to graduate college with my bachelors’ degree, and to learn how to run a business. It is so important to earn a college degree not only because it increases your earning potential, but also if you have a degree, you are more likely to earn more money throughout your career than if you were to only have a high school education. Going to school to get my degree will also help me in the future by meeting new people, and teach me how to associate with different kinds of people. After accomplishing my first objective, which I only have a year and a half left, I will then proceed on getting my license to sell insurance. There are many different types of insurance with a few being health and life insurance, property and casualty, and mortgage. This is a very important step towards my long-term goal due to the fact that without any of these licenses I will not be able to work under my father, and most importantly become an agent myself. I will train under my father and learn his way of being successful. Working under they eye of my father, who has been successful in the business for 12 years, I will gain a fearless attitude toward prospecting new costumers, networking, and building relationships. I also plan on improving my ability to organize, and operate the risk of running a business with a focus on marketing and costumer
