My Literacy Autobiography: My Experience

When you reflect on your past, who you were, what you did and what you learned, it can all tell you a lot about who you are in the present moment. Writing a literacy autobiography can help someone to better understand how and why they may read and write the way that they do. A literacy autobiography will help oneself to reflect, make connections and show how their beliefs and practices came to be when it come to literacy. When I think about my own literacy journey, it can be very difficult to think back that far. The farthest memory that I can recall is being in nursery school. I do have a very faint memory of sitting on a train carpet with all my classmates and the teacher reading to us about traffic lights and what each color means. I cannot recall anyone at home ever reading to my as a child. I can only recall memories of being in school and my teachers reading to me or being at home as I got older, reading to myself. My parents always helped in my literacy journey but never read to me. I remember as a child reading books and understanding certain words and not telling anyone. She is the reason today that I want to become a teacher. I cannot fully recall what she did that had such a positive impact on me because I cannot remember her much. I have always felt older then my actual age. Being in nursery school, I remember being so aware of my surroundings and looking up to my teacher so much I would observe them and how they acted and how they were with me and the other children. The teacher that had this positive impact on me, her name was Ms. V. I loved Ms.V and my parents told me I would always talk about her. Today I find it ironic they my students now call me Ms.V, the name of a teacher I once aspired to be
