To tell the story of my life and how literacy has a personal connection with me, wed have to start when i first started reading and writing. When i began learning to read and write i loved it, i loved being able to read different things and finally understanding what different things meant. The majority of my time spent in elementary school was reading books or reading magazines, I enjoyed reading so much. Growing up i was always told by everyone “You're going to be so smart, people who read a lot tend to be really smart.”. This mostly came from my grandma who always pushed me to be the person i've always wanted to be. The time we spent together we'd spend together was reading and talking about different things we had read. When i was a little todler my grandma pushed for a lot of my cousins to speak spanish although most lost their ability to speak and …show more content…
Not only was i able to read things in english i also was introduced to a lot of reading in spanish which in my opinion was way better. When i got into 5th grade my teacher was really impressed with me and all my abilities i could show when it came to reading and writing. “You're way more complex than the rest of the students Anthony,” i remember my teacher telling me, “You must take this type of stuff seriously at home which is a really good thing, we will have to sit and talk with your parents because i'm really impressed.”. Hearing this from my teacher really made me feel good on the inside, hearing things from your reacher at that age for me was a really big thing to my family and i. Throughout elementary school i really shined when it came to my literacy skills, “you need to keep it up anthony i'm so proud of you and what you have done.” is what my mom would always tell me whenever she say my grades. When i was preparing for my first year of junior high i always told myself “I wonder what things ill

Each individual found their own reason why literacy is important. My input about literacy is that it 's an essential life skill because it can help you develop a more complex vocabulary, become more articulate in speaking and writing, and you’ll receive a lot of respect from people around you. Some struggles I faced with education growing up is the English language. I was proficient in mathematics, however, english was a challenge. In that moment was the beginning of something new. Learning that a language can shape me as a person and be the center of my relationships with people. After my first day of school I went home and barely spoke about my day. I was embarrassed, I did not have any friends, it was impossible to make any. In his article “What is literacy?”, James Paul Gee maintains that the definition of discourse: “a socially accepted association among the ways of using language, of thinking, and of acting that can be used to identify oneself as a member of a socially meaningful group or ‘social network’”. In the reading, discourse talk into production of goods in a society “dominant discourse” and assent to talk about those groups that have disagreement when using them as “dominant groups”. When people discuss something with other, they are not using their own ideas. At the same time, he goes on to explain that there are many points can make about discourse, such as the direction and significant in term. Important to realize, the author organizes discourse that…

Now I am big sister, and I fill out anything my mom needs. You see, that is the importance of being bilingual. If I did not have the ability to interpret, my family would be struggling. I now help my parents improve their English, I provide assistance to anyone that is in need of improvement in their pronunciation, and I am even the person that people can come to when the situation involves reading important documents. I am blissful and feel very reassured in my…

When it came to Spanish I was able to understand it and sort of speak it but I was not able to read or write it, that comes later in my life. A moment in when language (Spanish) really changed a lot in my life was when I got into high school and toke my first Spanish class. This changed a lot in my life because taking this class would help me read and write Spanish while also improving how I pronounced words and spoke so that it would become fluent. As I grew up I did learn more and more at home so speaking Spanish became easier but it still had a lack of fluency.…

My personal literacy development has been influenced by many factors, however the most prominent factors are My parents, my seventh grade teacher Mrs. Jones, and finally my academics. My journey with literacy has been a part of my life and began before I even entered school. During my early days you would say I was a “repeater”. My parents always sat down and read to me.…

Although I never knew the word “literacy” when I was a child, I realized its importance without even knowing the definition. My errors on learning a completely different language only pushed me to become more literate in English. While I still think the definition of the word “literacy” is the ability to read and write, the meaning is much more significant to a bilingual speaker since you are learning a completely new language, and forced to communicate in a different way than you were used to. Literacy is the building block for communication, and I am very fortunate to have learned its importance at such a young age. I always think to myself, “What is the point of having great knowledge when you cannot share it because you are illiterate?”…

Spanish is a great language for children to grow up using. If you are endowed with the ability of being bilingual, then you already are aware of this. But for the rest of us, Spanish was one of the more difficult school subjects later in life. When we were sitting in Spanish class back in junior high or college, we remember thinking, "This would have been so much easier if I had just learned it as a child." We look at some of our friends who speak the language with ease, and we only wish that we could have that ability so that we could teach our kids and give them an advantage in a world that increasingly speaks both English and Spanish.…

They can say a few words but it wouldn 't come out as good, they would say the couple words they know in English and the rest in Spanish basically Spanglish. Their way of speaking English is using the Spanish accent such as saying “McDonalds” they tend to say “Maidonas”. This is beneficial because now that they have someone to help them they don’t have to struggle as much as before when we all only spoke Spanish, including me. Knowing a couple of languages just makes things a lot easier. Although, I have to admit that there were times where I got frustrated and didn’t want to learn English because I found it too complicated to learn.…

My Language Learning Experience I have been a student of Spanish since I was in the 7th grade. It was my twin sister who ignited the spark for me.
