My Lifetime Goals: My Goals In My Life

Decent Essays
In my lifetime, my goals have changed and been revised many times. As I get older, I am able to see the bigger picture. While I can 't tell you what my lifetime goals were when I was 5, 13, and even 16, today, I think I have a pretty clear idea. My lifetime goal that I have for myself is to be optimistic and gain wisdom from every experience that I encounter. From there I plan to use that wisdom to improve myself and become the best I can be at whatever it is that I chose to do one day. Through participating in Tae Kwon Do, marching band, track and advanced classes, I have gained insight in what steps I must take to achieve that goal. At age 7, I began taking Taekwondo classes at a local dojo in Sherman,
Texas,where I lived. I wanted

In my 8 years of training, I encountered people of all ages, backgrounds and personalities. I gained mental perseverance through physical training as well as wisdom through the maturity level of the class. When I was 13, we moved away from Sherman to
Prosper, but still my mother drove my brother and I to Sherman twice a week to continue our classes as we were approaching the achievement of a black belt.
There were many times that I thought I couldn 't handle the rigorousity of the activity and wanted to quit, but I couldn 't give up. I hadn 't spent 8 years taking these classes for nothing. Taekwondo taught me how to finish strong. In 9th grade, I tried out for the track and field team and barely made it.
I worked all year long to increase my speed and endurance as a runner, but it didn 't seem to make a difference. I refused to be discouraged and ran track again in 10th grade, but again, didn 't experience much success. No matter what
I tried I couldn 't seem to master the form or skill that the other girls on the team could. It was after my sophomore year that I was faced with the fact that not everyone is cut out for running. I quit the track and field team

My freshman year of highschool I tried out to be in the battery of the drumline. I desperately wanted to make snare drum but I knew that I hadn 't put the necessary work in. That year, I made bass drum number 3. Sophomore year, I tried out for snare drum again, and made bass drum number 3 for the second time. Once again, I knew that I hadn 't put in the adequate amount of practice to achieve my goal of making snare drum. A second year of playing an instrument that wasn 't ideal put my mental and physical endurance to the test. I had to make snare drum my junior year. The summer before junior year, I practiced every day for a minimum of an hour a day. The day of tryouts junior year, I came prepared. I was successful in my audition and finally achieved my goal of earning a spot on the snare line. I kept my spot on the snare line senior year, as well as earning the position of captain of the drumline, which was something
I never thought possible. Through this achievement I have been able to comprehend the great reward that hard work can bring, as well as interacting with the diverse group of people who comprise the Prosper High School

As a result of continuous practice and persistence, I became the principal player in my freshman band. Before entering high school band, notwithstanding the effort, I faced financial challenges. My family could not afford a trombone or pay for band to let me continue my dreams. But I did not surrender hope, and asked my band teacher for help while my parents sought aids from my relatives. Fortunately, I could purchase a student model instrument at a cheap price and continue to play in high school.…

Ever since I joined band in 4th grade, people have been talking about how excited they were to join marching band. At band day in 5th and 6th grade, everyone else shared how they couldn't wait until they were a 9th grader and could finally be able to perform and play in the stands like we saw the marching band do many times. In 7th and 8th grade, we had a watered down version of marching band that only played two parades. While I was glad to get snare drum both years, the exhilaration was never there, and I came very close to not joining marching band. But against my will, I ended up auditioning for drumline in April and I got the cymbals.…

When I arrived at my enormous new high school for cheerleading auditions, I got lost. It was June, and since classes had just ended, crowds of kids filled the hallways, and I got bumped around like I did not exist. Thankfully, a cheerleader saw me and figured that I had come there for tryouts since I wore shorts, cheer shoes and a big bow in my hair. She took me to the gym where at least sixty girls had shown up to compete. The first thing I saw was cheerleaders doing high level tumbling with no fear.…

As a year-round student-athlete, balancing classwork and academics with training has been at the forefront of my entire high school career—freshman to senior year. Though the classes I undertook were rigorous and required an extreme level of commitment and attention, I persisted with my athletic career because it taught me several valuable life lessons. The sport I feel that I am most involved in is Cross Country. While only a fall sport, it is, in my opinion, one of the most physically demanding and difficult sports to compete in. We train by running upwards of thirty miles a week to compete against other teams in 5000-meter races on various terrains.…

I was never a sporty kid. For the majority of my childhood, my hobbies have included reading, playing video games, and other generic nerd activities. If you had asked me if I wanted to play a sport, I would have laughed at the prospect, so I surprised even myself when I answered yes to my mother’s inquiry about joining my school’s new flag football team. I worried about it for the weeks leading up to the first practice, but eventually I decided “Why not? It may end up being fun.”…
